Panos Kotzathanasis HanCinema Despite being a bit too long, "Hellcats" is a delightful movie that takes full advantage of its cast, and a film that will definitely leave a smile on your face, despite your gender. Apr 7, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member first part of the movie is funny... the drama is realistic (i thought, i don't know if this is the real feeling women felt) . . . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The film owes most of its success to brilliant casting. The film's first casting coup, Lee Mi-Suk, turns in a solid performance as a forty-one year old stage designer confronted with 'early onset' menopause. The film's second casting coup was landing Ahn So-hee of the popular K-pop group, the Wonder Girls, to play Lee's teen-aged daughter. Finally, the biggest and most welcome surprise is the performance of Twiggy model Kim Min-hie who anchors and narrates the film. Her performance is genuine, pulling off the impossible: acting drunk and shrill without losing any of her charm. She's not drunk all the time. It's only a few scenes, but under normal circumstances this is enough to ruin a role, if not a film, for me. more: sitenoise at the movies: Hellcats Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The first thing I must mention are the tacky posters and really queasy trailer which don't hint at how well made a film this is. The set up is fairly rote. A-mi is a scriptwriter who is loved by two men, a failed musician and a successful businessman, Young-mi is A-mi's much older sister who is carrying on an affair with a man half her age, and Kang-ae is Young-mi's teenage daughter who cannot get a kiss from her shy boyfriend. Simple enough. The film's strength is how it subverts these cliches. The women here are complex and their struggles are of the internal, a fight between what one truly desires and what is the easier but less fulfilling path. However these are women in control of their destiny. There is no dimwitted submissive attitudes on display. A-mi is the main character, one of rants and drunken pity parties but also toughness and a refusal to be pushed around. She is always involving and as the film continues and her confidence soars her character's arc gains in momentum. Young-mi is compelling too as she struggles with fears about aging. Kang-ae though gets the film's most endearing romance but I won't say more than that. Anyways this is a sharply written film about three characters one comes to care about. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie really made me think about ones future.. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a very real film. At least I it seems as though it could be. I lack a vagina and this is a very feminine film. It looks at a series of relationships through a series of generations. Menopause, lesbianism and choosing between the safe nice guy and the alluring bad ass, all come into play here. The film has a certain honesty that is lacking from many movies. Unfortunately a lot of the film wallows in self pity and can become slightly whiny. For the most part though this is a very good film, but one that fails to engage for the whole 2 hours. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I loooooooved it! I feel soo like Kim. Is a very real movie, funny, sad, and feminine, the acting is great. Anyway nothing more, just watch it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
