What to Know

Critics Consensus

Poor performances, stiff dialogue, flat characters, and an unimaginative stab at the mood of the Guy Ritchie crime caper make Dead Man Running into a hooligan tale with little to offer.

Kim Newman Empire Magazine It has a quality cast, but we've run round this track too many times, while the script jogs from scene to scene without any surprises. Rated: 2/5 Oct 30, 2009 Full Review Derek Adams Time Out This budget-conscious, simplistically plotted and often cringingly performed crime caper is not quite as inauspicious a producing debut as one might have expected. Rated: 2/5 Oct 30, 2009 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) Dead Man Running feels like something cobbled together after a cynical producer saw Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and decided to cash in. Except it is ten years too late. Rated: 1/5 Oct 30, 2009 Full Review Michael Dequina TheMovieReport.com Hardly an unpleasant ride to take, but this is ultimately the epitome of disposable entertainment. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 5, 2010 Full Review Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) If Guy Ritchie lost interest while making another cockney-geezer caper and tried to get himself sacked by deliberately turning in half-hearted work, the result of his non-efforts might look something like this film. Rated: 1/5 Nov 6, 2009 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) A little uncertain in tone, but brisk and likely to go down well with the patrons of Albert Square's Queen Vic. Audience Member The best film from 2009, what a throwback!! Throughout the film you can clearly see how the directors worked very hard as a team with the writers and the rest to make this easy for the cast to act as most of them where very new to the role. It was put together so well and my only regret is that i never got to see how it was created and molded into the end result !! For a $1 million budget this film was 99.9% perfect. I am sure that a lot of people will disagree with what i am saying but i am sure that i could twist your arm in an argument ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Not bad for a film with Danny Dyer in it. Most of his films are crap! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Fun British bromantic comedy about two friends in a race against time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Danny Dyer in British Gangster films has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. His role in this one is no exception. Tamer Hassan is always enjoyable albeit maybe not his best performance ever. Whilst the storyline is predictable (which gangster film isn't?), I have to say that this was a decent movie all-in-all. As much as I love 50 Cent as a rapper, the verdict is still out on him as a movie actor. Although admittedly him cast as a drug kingpin is probably a role he would feel more comfortable with than most. Don't expect the world and you might be pleasantly surprised with this one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/19 Full Review Audience Member I normally give Danny Dyer flicks a swerve and was expecting this to be his usual wank but its actually decent. Has a great soundtrack, in particular De Rakoff use of The Stone Roses - Fools Gold. A serious twitch from Monet Mazur and the production team must have had plenty of dirt on Brenda Blethyn to get an actress of her calibre involved. Overall a nicely paced action flick and Hassan is a likely character in the lead. However, one has to question how 50 Cent a mere American loan shark came about controlling all the crime in the London underworld. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Hassan and Dyer team up again from an old favorite, The Business. A few lose ends but I enjoyed this flick. 50cent was only 25 in this one.
