Alex Cole Battle Royale With Cheese Brandon Alexander III as Cassie Glen is exceptionable; his is a flawless performance that often leaves you forgetting he's played by a man at all. May 21, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Thomas D This movie is not winning any Oscars. But it is clever, campy, and clearly a labor of love. Cassie is a riot and who wouldn't love queer icons Judy Tenuta and Cassandra Peterson? If you enter this film knowing it is a genre piece, you will appreciate how well crafted it truly is. What is that genre, you may ask? Intentionally bad drag meets a parody of a teen comedy. It's like "Girls Will Be Girls: The Teen Years." Jack Plotnick is probably the weakest link of this film - not bad, by any means, but nothing to write home about. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie it's so Damn awesome. This movie seriously had me rollin Lol. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member great atmosphere! funny and ridiculous! a must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member "First Period" is to "Mean Girls" what "Wet Hot American Summer" was to "Meatballs": a parody that works best when it forgets it's a parody. It's fleeting moments of real pathos are so satisfying that you can't help wishing the whole thing had been reigned in a little bit. Brandon Alexander III as new-girl Cassie Glenn eventually manages the feat of making you forget he's a boy. He even has a little of Reese Witherspoon's plucky charm from "Legally Blonde", and you find yourself rooting for Cassie even though the template is so well-trodden that the eventual happy ending (and requisite variety show performance) will surprise no one. Dudley Beene as her bestie has his moments, but unlike Alexander, never becomes more than a boy in a dress. The two central characters are the only cross-dressing actors, so "First Period" does not have the feel of a "drag movie" like "Girls Will Be Girls". And although nearly all the situations are predictable (as in "Scream", this is part of the satire), it's still fun watching it all unfold. Production standards are surprisingly high, and the supporting cast are solid, featuring cameos by Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), and Judy Tenuta. Highlights include Lauren Rose Lewis as the bitchy Heather (who else?), Jack Plotnick as the creepy teacher, and Diane Salinger, who nearly steals the show as the "free spirit" art teacher. The finale could have been more climactic, but all in all, "First Period" has more of a heart than you'd think, and is only a wee bit weaker than most of the movies it parodies. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member If you are a fan or downright, campy. funny, gender bending gay comedies, then this popularity contest film will fulfill the bill. If you can relate to being an outcast, who's every desire is to be accepted by the popular group, but is always rejected, laughed at and misunderstood, then First Period full length feature film is a must see over and over again. It' campy, it's funny and it sets the record straight. I mean, it sets the record gay straight. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member You really can skip this and rent "Girls Will Be Girls" which is a much better film in the same campy bathroom humor style.
