Anton Bitel Sight & Sound the shift in Kim Sung-soo's infection disaster movie FLU from buddy laughs and cutesy child antics to what can only be described as Holocaust imagery was too much for this viewer, with poor CGI compounding the alienation. Dec 19, 2013 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Kim Sung-su rallies the crowd and action scenes with ease, although the intertwining strands of the overcooked narrative occasionally threaten to unravel. Rated: 3/5 Nov 24, 2013 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian Frequent spluttering montages provide silly fun, but this sort of doomsday projection surely ought to be terrifying. Rated: 2/5 Nov 21, 2013 Full Review William Schwartz HanCinema Every single character, be it hero, villain, or supporting role, is selfish, obnoxious, and seems to favor violence as the immediate solution to nearly every problem. Nov 3, 2019 Full Review Graham Young Birmingham Mail A well-made, edge-of-seat action thriller that's no more serious - and often just as much fun - as Channing Tatum's White House Down. Rated: 4/5 Oct 10, 2014 Full Review Graham Young Birmingham Post From the opening caption 'This film is not based on real events', Flu has style and energy. Timothy V The movie felt so real. The characters felt so real. The entire time I was in the edge of my coach, afraid what's going to happen to everyone. Conflict felt super great in this movie. It shows power in numbers instead of power by strength. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/23 Full Review weeve f I rather liked the movie. I was expecting a zombie movie, but in terms of the tensions in the film, they aren't too far off of what I was hoping for, and the general message about honesty, goodness, and standing up for what's right is definitely appreciated. Acting felt good, the sets felt good, and this was overall a pretty great film, just with some dramatic plot points that stretched realism a bit. Saw some reviews complaining about the USA being bad guys here, and that their presence was unrealistic- I do think that realism was stepped on a bit there, but I do understand the decision, and support it as a US citizen. The movie used the USA as some generic symbol of a country that stepped in, and was pushing to eradicate at all costs. I do believe that would be a normal governmental decision to make, and by using the USA for that, I believe they kept from offending any neighboring countries, or talking bad about treaty organizations. It's good for countries to have hope in themselves, and to support goodness and honesty over absolute safety, and I don't think they could have made that message as effective if they demonized their own government, or a country more personally close to them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Feel like empty after watching the whole 2 hours movie. The story doesn't add up and escalated with very poor pace control. Feel like whole movie doesn't have a main story in it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Messy and lame story plot execution hide behind the chaos from the incompetent poor infection chorology with zero-scientific focus. Should really take some crash course from Contagion rather than the drama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This was shown in 2013 and yet it's happening all over the world now. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Overall fun and exciting. Logic of country-level intervention is unreasonable and felt forced. There are numerous better way to handle a kid and her mom, and thus the dramatic scene feels unrealistically detached. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
