Naughty_Dogg69 Feels like The Last kingdom and 300 had a baby Don't miss out on this amazing movie, stumbled on it by accident on amazon prime freeview The story was very well written and the acting was epic Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Robert J Wow what a great epic movie best foreign action film Ive seen as good as they get heroes villains humor an heart cant recommend it enough an graphics an acting top rate Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a tad thin on story and seems to borrow heavily from 300 (Spartans) but it's great to look at. The violence is well handled and the acting, for the most part, is pretty good. It's a bit of a spectacular really that, for an undemanding couple of hours or so, will whisk you back to a medieval, snowy Russia where our brave heroes fight off the the Mongolian hordes determined to destroy them. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review corkball Furious is going to be pretty hard to review. It is clearly steeped in Russian myth and love of tragedy. Supposedly these events actually happened, in the same kind of way the movie '300' represents historical events. Actually, this movie shares much in common with 300. It takes a mythological battle against an invading, decadent eastern horde, and glamorizes all the sacrifice, hardship and death down to the same slow motion overly red blood splatters. Even the color palette messes with reality. Where in 300, you had kind of a sepia with red and browns, Furious has a much more Russian winter bold slate gray coloring, with only brief periods of sunlight to highlight plot points. It is almost maddening trying to square the weather with reality because it literally changes for scene to scene. If you treat it as a character though, the film actually makes more sense. The plot is similar to various 'outnumbered and outgunned' films - 300 being the most obvious, but you can go through the list - Braveheart, Magificent 7, etc. It has the standard retinue of warrior supporting characters: the really big strong guy, the weaselly guy, the guy who is good with arrows, etc. The main character, Kolovrat, is attractive and handy with a sword, but has, for some reason, daily amnesia, which seems to do nothing to advance the plot. Anyway, Kolovrat is driven furious by the destruction of his town and the death of his family, and should I say, REALLY attractive wife, who despite the Russian winter, has an aversion to clothing! He and his band of merry men take on the Golden Horde by themselves. Of course this is a Russian movie, so it most likely won't have a happy ending. There really is not much character development, as most of the characters are busy dying. I enjoyed this film. It isn't the BEST epic war film ever - 300 and LoTR being better - but I would rank it up there with some of Mel Gibson's epics of some of the Chinese films. They certainly put a lot of time and effort into costuming and set pieces - it is a good looking film. And while the CGI is not always believable, it is generally good enough. The absolute worst part of the film was the dubbing. I couldn't tell if it was the voice overs or the translation from Russian, but the dialogue is really stilted and bad, like watching a 70s Kung Fu movie. I can only HOPE the film sounds more elegant in Russian. My suspicion is if you are Russian, this film would automatically get one more star than anyone else would get from it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Whilst having good production quality and a professional finish this film felt very distant. The characters were not relatable and the translation of the time period seemed very Hollywood. The action sequences lacked gravitas. Never at any point did I truly believe the main character was in any trouble. Everything was very convenient. This has a knock on affect to the believability of the story because this was supposed to be an insurmountable task for the protagonists....a great military achievement. This great military achievement looked very convenient and had no stakes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
