Anton Bitel Little White Lies viewed now, its depiction of an America obsessed with nostalgic retrogression, and ever open to exploitation in all its forms, seems entirely prescient. Apr 18, 2022 Full Review Brent McKnight The Last Thing I See "Godmonster" has everything you want out of a movie: dope fur vests, old-west-style prostitutes, racist land barons, pie throwing children, faking a dog's death as a means of blackmail, and, of course, an eight-foot-tall rampaging mutant sheep monster. Audience Member Not a bad movie; weird, yes, but not bad. The sheep monster was designed to be scary, and many people say it isn't, but it's creepy in the face. The B plot with Barnstuble does not have a comfortable spot in this movie, it should've had its own separate movie, while having this one focus solely on the monster. All in all, I give it three and a half out of five stars. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review valhalla7 s There are bad movies. There are puzzling movies, whose purpose and very existence are something of a head scratcher. And then every once in a while, there are movies so terrible, so utterly bizarre that when it's over, you can't help but ask yourself "What in the hell did I just watch?" Godmonster firmly belongs in the latter category. It is possibly the worst, probably the weirdest, and certainly the most incomprehensible western I have ever watched. With a title like Godmonster of Indian Flats, you'd expect one incredibly powerful and terrifying monster. Perhaps some Native Great Spirit given vengeful form. Well in this case you'd be completely wrong. Instead we get one of the worst, most pathetic monsters ever put on screen. Ash at Trailer Club 70 said it best when he described the monster as a lumpy rubber sheep. Grotesque it may be, but threatening, not so much. Calling it a Godmonster is blatant false advertising of the highest order. What's more, it doesn't even break loose or attack anyone until after the one-hour mark. For most of the runtime, its very existence is treated as a subplot. Because at its heart, this movie is really about tension over real estate deals, and the competing imperatives of conservation and development. Or at least that's what the movie seems to want to be about, given the piousness and frequency with which the mayor talks about conservation. To be honest though, I don't think this movie or any of the people in it have any idea what it's about. For instance, if all the main characters live in the area, then what's with the opening scene at a casino in Reno? And how else to explain the funeral for a dog- who's not even dead! Well actually there is an explanation. It's all an excuse to run a black guy out of town- but not because they're racist or anything. Trust me, it won't make any more sense once you've seen it. It's also unclear why the movie just forgets about the original protagonist partway through. And I challenge anyone to make sense of the ending, in which a mob throws boxes and pushes cars down the city trash heap while cowboys chase other people into the desert and the mayor rants and raves like some kind of mad prophet. The question isn't whether the writers were on drugs, it's what drugs were they on? And what made them think the result was in any way filmable? And why did the good people of Virginia City Nevada allow their town to be used as the backdrop for a movie that makes them look like a bunch of backwards idiots with America's most corrupt city government? And how many times can one movie shout the name Barnstable? Tell me if you can, because I just don't know. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member cheap, but in a good way Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not sure how to rate this one. The movie is absolutely terrible, but the experience of watching it was a blast. In spite of what you may think about my taste in films, I'm honestly not a big fan of so-bad-it's-good-cinema, but this film falls squarely in that category and is a hoot. It's one of those films where you'll say to yourself, "WTF did I just watch?" Pair this with "Black Sheep" (a great intentionally funny film) for a double feature of killer sheep fun. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member This is no Night of the Lepus. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member WEIRD is the best way to describe this flick. It started off as a modern movie & seemed to almost end up as a Western. The sheep seemed to be more of a deformed camel or something. If you like weird movies then I think you'll like Godmonster Of Indian Flats Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
