For a metaphysical love-conquers-all tale, "Grace and Grit" offers very little substance around such lofty concepts as existence, spirituality and romantic harmony. Go to Full Review

If you can make it through the first ten minutes of "Grace and Grit" without groaning, then your tolerance for New Age folderols, saccharin voice-overs and seraphic gazes is higher than mine. Go to Full Review

Everyone has a story, but not everyone's story is cinematic -- and while the Wilbers' experience may deserve our compassion, this depiction doesn't deserve our viewership. Go to Full Review

It's very ambitious, but it doesn't feel like there's a narrative direction to it. Go to Full Review

Savannah A @Savannah110 Dec 28 Intense, raw, and stunningly human. With Grace and Grit, Siegel doesn’t just tell Ken and Treya Wilber’s story, he conducts it, guiding emotions with such precision that the audience becomes a third protagonist, present through love, loss, devotion, and transcendence. Based on Ken Wilber’s true story and book, the film depicts love at its fullest. Grace and Grit reframes surrender not as defeat, but as evolution, asking us to witness love in motion even when it hurts. The performances are brilliant, grounded, and fearless. The cinematography moves like emotion itself: intentional, intimate, and alive, aiding to speak the story. Soul-shaking and enduring, Grace and Grit lingers long after the credits, pushing you to reexamine your own relationships and capacity for courage. A must-watch for anyone seeking a love story unafraid of the truth: love isn’t gentle, it’s transformative. And this film transforms with it. A necessary work of art to better understand the human experience. See more Nov 25 I have a strong suspicion that most of the positive audience reviews are friends and family members (0 verified audience reviews)---I could not make it past about a half an hour. The critics seem to be more honest. This is a flat out boring mess. A high school kid with minimal knowledge of film making could come up with something more interesting, I'd imagine. The leads have zero chemistry (not saying they are bad actors--just nothing to work with) and that weird haunting background strain just about drove me nuts. See more Julia B Nov 20 First of all, there was zero chemistry between the main characters. I couldn’t buy into it at all. There was absolutely nothing to hang on to in this movie. Don’t waste your time. See more Ryan M 09/25/2024 "Grace and Grit" compels audiences to confront the stark realities of life. The cinematography offers viewers an insightful exploration of the complexities that arise in relationships, particularly when one partner is dealing with illness. Throughout the film, we are encouraged to look beyond the afflicted individual and recognize the ripple effects that one person's health challenges can have on those around them. As someone who has faced illness myself, "Grace and Grit" prompted me to empathize with Treya’s partner, who transitions from scholar to caregiver. This film powerfully captures the gravity of battling illness while preserving the humanity of the experience. It is profoundly moving and beautifully executed, leaving a lasting impact. See more Justin C 09/24/2024 One of the most impactful cinematic experiences of my life, The depth of the authors, process, And the permission given feels like Justice and for what it’s worth a sentimental conclusion. I was able to live this process in a way where I felt “allowed in”, and for that I am grateful! See more Edward J 02/20/2024 Grace and Grit is a powerful and moving film that tells the true story of Ken and Treya Wilber, a couple who faced the ultimate test of love and faith when Treya was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after their marriage. Based on Ken's acclaimed memoir of the same name, the film explores the spiritual and emotional journey of the Wilbers as they cope with Treya's illness and seek meaning and healing in their lives. The film is directed by Sebastian Siegel, who also wrote the screenplay and produced the film. Siegel shows a remarkable sensitivity and respect for the source material, as well as a keen eye for capturing the beauty and grace of nature, which plays a significant role in the film's aesthetics and symbolism. The film also features an original score by Alex Ebert, which adds to the emotional impact of the film. The film is anchored by the performances of Mena Suvari and Stuart Townsend, who play Treya and Ken respectively. Suvari delivers a stunning and courageous performance as Treya, who undergoes a physical and spiritual transformation as she battles cancer and embraces various forms of therapy and meditation. Suvari portrays Treya's pain, joy, vulnerability, and strength with authenticity and nuance. Townsend is equally impressive as Ken, who struggles to balance his role as a husband, caregiver, and philosopher. Townsend conveys Ken's devotion, frustration, and wisdom with subtlety and depth. Grace and Grit is a film that celebrates the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. It is a film that will touch your heart and inspire your soul. It is a film that you will not forget. See more Read all reviews
