全日空宣传片。前半段的耍宝和不专业令人提心吊胆,后半段则紧张感拉满,实在不知道该在哪里笑。

Happy Flight wasn't the movie I was expecting. Judging from the title and the poster and the fact it stars Ayase Haruka, I was expecting a light-hearted rom-com. Instead, it is a super-realistic film about an plane making an emergency landing. Whoever wrote this seems to be an airline industry insider making this film for other insiders. While it wasn't the most satisfying of films, I feel like I learned a lot.

summary: definitely not one of the best japanese movies. in fact, the opposite of what you normally get from japanese movies (and tv as well). not clever, not engaging.
the film distracted from the main story too much by trying show every little thing that could happen to flight attendants and pilots, while the story itself wasn't that engaging. if it wasn't in japanese (since i like listening to the language), i really wouldn't have sat through the whole thing. each character was basically a caricature (the lonely girl, the clueless girl, the good looking but goofy guy, the hard worker who felt bad if he caused a problem). and the customers.. wow... pointless.

This flick is quite different from Shinobu Yaguchi's prior films Swing Girls and Waterboys. It doesn't have the laugh-out-loud hilarity but it does have the same sweet charm and, surprisingly enough, a great deal of suspense. I'm admittedly already a nervous flier and just watching this film was enough to make me postpone my trip to Australia. I marveled at how much goes into an average flight and how much could go wrong. You can tell that Yaguchi-san has a great respect and reverence for the airline industry from the air control tower all the way down to the gate attendants because he not only takes great care in showcasing how integral each job is but he also does his best to humanize each character he focuses on. I'm sure after you see this flick you'll gain a new respect for the folks that bust their humps to make sure you make it from point A to B.
