Audience Member This is a perfect movie. If you've ever seen Lethal Weapon, you've basically seen the poor man's version of this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Hollywood Cop (1987) Review: Some spoilers. Well this is just a bad movie with many reasons. In one of the first scenes where we get to see the boss. Um it seems like he just reads(says) his lines instead of reacting what the other actors says. On the kidnap ransom letter it says where to go, but there is not a certain time set which makes no sense at all. The criminals in the movie doesn't even watch the kid they kidnap. Where he can easily escape and Hollywood Cop can just come in and get the kid. Smart huh? The fighting scenes in the movie is like what in the world is this? There are times where there is bad audio editing where you can hear them speak, but their lips are not moving at the time. There is also terrible acting I could not even like any of the characters cause of it. The only funny part is the character Animal where he just laughs randomly during scenes. Well this is what I went by on rating: 1 Good or bad sound editing. It was Bad time of where you can hear them speak, but no lips moving at same time. 2 Good or bad special effects. There were times it could been better. 3 Good or bad acting. Very Bad acting. 4 Able to see studio equipment (like Boom mics and so forth) Didn't notice any on this. 5 Good or bad Video editing. Seems ok. 6 Good or bad script. The script writing was boring and easily guessed on what was about to happen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Amir Shervan's most competent film, Hollywood Cop is still a raucous good time. An unwilling pastiche of the buddy cop movie, Hollywood cop is no Samurai cop in terms of absurd but it does manage to jam in demented criminals, muslim revenge beheadings, sped-up chases and other bafflingly incomprehensible bits. To note is that this movies features a bit of Cameron Mitchell in full Terror in Beverly Hills Angry police captain mode. Perhaps those two movies coexist in the same universe? Perhaps all LA-centric bad movies coexist? One can dream. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Amir Shervan is probably the equivalent of a modern day Ed Wood, and Hollywood Cop could be seen as a modern day Plan 9 From Outer Space. Ok, maybe it's not as memorable as that, but it's definitely crap. It's also that good kind of crap, the so-bad-it's-good kind. And when you take a plot about an undercover cop and shove in a kidnapping plot but don't include anything even remotely close to good, then you've got a winner, or a loser, depending on how you look at it. Amir Shervan made a variety of bad movies in the 80's and 90's, including the much-beloved Samurai Cop and Killing American Style. And like those movies, this one is just as bad. I actually can't decide which film of his is the worst, which is part of the fun. After all, he's an Iranian filmmaker trying to make an American style action movie. And it's hilariously bad, in every possible way.
