Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community Homunculus delivers an interesting premise that I think makes some solid observations about trauma, how it can linger longer than we realize, and what the costs of dealing with it can be. Rated: 6.5/10 Jan 16, 2023 Full Review Pieter-Jan Van Haecke Psychocinematography "An attempt to offer something fresh to the horror-table, but one that, sadly, fails to blends its pleasing parts into a whole that truly engages and pleases the spectator." May 8, 2022 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Homunculus" has some good points, but Takashi Shimizu is definitely past his prime, the adaptation is faulty once more, and the SFX and Go Ayano are not enough to salvage a movie that ends up aggressively mediocre. Jul 18, 2021 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation I'm not overstating it in saying this borders on nauseating. Rated: 1.5/4 May 28, 2021 Full Review James Hadfield Japan Times The longer the film goes on, the harder it is to say who "Homunculus" is for. Rated: 2/5 May 17, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Margo M Any movie that tries to back a sexual assault with "good intentions" by its protagonist is a hard pass for me... Personally. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review This movie is terrible. I want go back to before l saw this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/08/23 Full Review Cinna B An absolutely terrible movie. Poorly written characters, a plot that progresses agonizingly slow in the first half but then desperately rushes to shoehorn in a bunch of different plot points in the second half, a main character that violated a teenage girl in order to "fix" her... This is abhorrent. It's so boring, and the few scenes that actually catch your attention are unnecessary or do not make sense in reference to the rest of the storyline at all. Watching this movie was a nauseating experience. If you're thinking about watching it, don't. This is not worth your time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/30/23 Full Review Kotak The film has a strong concept that I believe falls short in it's execution. The plot felt strangely segmented into different arcs that didn't really tie into eachother, though I believe this is due to the film being an adaptation of a manga. Homunculus felt more like a shock film than a true horror film, especially with the schoolgirl scene. I found myself hardly able to watch through it, or even understand how or why this helped her. To me, it felt like an unnecessary scene of a grotesque and gruesome depiction of sexual assault rather than a pivotal point of the story. Overall, I don't think the film was inherently bad, but I believe it could've been executed far better, hence the 2.5/5 rating Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/23 Full Review Heidi L Right smack in the movie is a sexual assault and I can't for the life of me understand how the protagonist is thought to be doing this in order to save the victim. It's sickening. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/04/23 Full Review V R Excellent well thought out script. Was like watching a short story come to life. A compact format well written and leaving an open ending for a possible sequel. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
