Bruce M @BruceMc Sep 9 Bizarre grindhouse movie, really not very good, surprisingly slow (given the material), would be better with the original ending. Devil-worshipping, mean hippies eat tainted food and get rabies, go on a psychotic killing spree and infect locals. It does look great and has good editing and direction, however. Extra star for Lynn Lowrey, who doesn't have any dialog (she plays a mute) but is quite fetching. Clearly the inspiration for Conenberg's "Rabid" and "Shivers," both of which are, of course, far superior. See more Chris M 05/14/2024 First most hippies are atheists, they only worship peace and love. The Manson cult was the exception. Also, rabies wouldn’t have survived in the pot pies. Since Pete injected the rabies right after they came out of the oven, that’s 165°Fahrenheit and rabies can’t survive temperatures above 122°Fahrenheit. Basically this annoying little Kenny named Pete got several people killed just because hippies made his grampa go on a bad trip. A drug trip he lived through by the way. I can maybe understand if the trip resulted in his grampa dying from a heart attack or stroke given his age, but nope, it survived. I think writer directed David E. Durston just really hated hippies and didn’t care his movie made no sense. En su época debió ser una película que logro horrorizar al público por sus escenas violentas y sangrientas, más la banda sonora que consiste en unos efectos de sonido que no envejecieron muy bien. Más que una película de horror, sería más bien un thriller con pinta de horror. Lo positivo es que se trata de una película que para su época estaba avanzada por su crudeza, que es típica en los films de explotación. Hoy en día no se siente muy violenta, pero es una película fascinante con una historia bastante original. Sin duda una película de culto que, si bien, no se la puede ver como una película de horror, al menos logra capturar la atención de cualquiera interesado en el cine de explotación. I was older when I discovered the great grindhouse/exploitation type movies. I Drink Your Blood was one of the first I watched (Cannibal Holocaust being the first). I was quickly hooked. Though, it's not easy finding the movies. Oh, and try explaining to your family why you like them. Now that's an interesting conversation. It started out as intriguing and unsettling, but later just turns into this tedious and crazy mess. Satanic, burnt-out hippies spreading murderous havoc had a lot of potential for a good horror film. It felt like a mix between Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Cronenberg's Rabid (1977). But unfortunately, the script is a mess, the acting is pretty bad, and it just makes the flick boring. The only things that redeem it a little is the buckets of enjoyable, cheap gore, and surprisingly, the music is actually pretty good. But overall, this is only for the true lovers of cult exploitation films, it could've been a lot better... See more Read all reviews
