Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times As singular as its title, "I Travel Because I Have To, I Come Back Because I Love You" embraces road movie, personal journal and trancelike study of arcing grief. Rated: 4/5 Mar 24, 2011 Full Review Alison Willmore Time Out The movie's true brilliance comes from its portrayal of how the world curls around you in the grip of heartache-every song on the radio, every face you see, every story you're told reflecting only what you've lost. Rated: 5/5 Mar 23, 2011 Full Review Mark Holcomb Village Voice Like the best trips, I Travel goes places that couldn't have been anticipated. Mar 22, 2011 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row May have an unusual title, but this deeply personal paean to the broken hearted is a thing of true and rare beauty that leaves a lasting impression. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Donald J. Levit ReelTalk Movie Reviews Dramatized as narrative by its narration, this drama is able to free-associate just as the human mind does. The journey is pilgrimage which circles inwards to the heart of love and failure Apr 5, 2012 Full Review Eric Monder Film Journal International Spellbinding little movie deserves lots of attention. Crocodilo Russo de Combate a prose that lasts more than an hour. a poem that could have been summarized in a short film.touches us through the existential question, and after a while it becomes boring, nauseating. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Viajo Porque Preciso, Volto Porque Te Amo is an enthralling and deeply affecting portrayal of grief and desolation that transcends thanks to its expressionistic deconstruction of film language. Shot in super 8 format and narrated entirely by the voice-over of a character we never see, Gomez and Ainouz manage to create a melancholic atmosphere that permeates every frame and sound in the film thanks to their lyrical sensibilities. Even if the narrative is not the main focus of the film, the moments of banality are portrayed in a way that feels almost as intimate and cathartic as the introspective monologues and devastating songs that play throughout. All the emotional poignancy is complemented by an aesthetically audacious formal approach in which still photographs, frame rate changes, and simultaneous shots juxtapose, consolidating Viajo Porque Preciso, Volto Porque Te Amo as an experience that resonantes on a visceral level. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member It can give you one of those rare satisfaction moments of seeing something original. But that does not need to push your tolerance for the different nor loses the capacity to connect emotionally to the viewer. A beautiful picture from one of the most talented contemporary Brazilian fil makers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member the purest form of a road movie, it traces a geologist's journey through brazil's northern territory on a quest to find something and to lose something. hypnotic. watch it here --> docalliance: http://dafilms.com/event/52/ Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member What a strange movie! Never saw a movie like this before. It's too original and different .This bizarre Brazilian movie without any actor, only with a narrator is like a compelling nightmare. Its haunting images are strangely scary and at the same time thought-provoking. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
