Audience Member its above average for a new zealand film; the character development is weak and the acting limited. i think they could have made more of the authors dilemma... people are dying around him and did i do it?? self doubt on harry's part could have been an interesting psychological issue to explore. A further advancement would have been to play the authors affection for the girl of his fat buddies... division between them could have further alienated harry, making his post-"arrest" treatment develop into a more complete exploration of issues relating to civil rights for criminals... from that point of view it would have been improved if he had a more proactive advocate than the cute one. from that point of view, it was ...a mistake to reveal who he was.. it would have been a better film if they didnt know; and what was the killers motivation??? they took the easy way out and it comes across as a simpler film. of course if all you want is a slasher movie thats a good thing ;trouble is this movie isnt even trying to be that 5.5/10, though it was watchable and in a simple sort of way had no obvious plot holes. That may of course be the linear plot with no real plot development. it could have been a far better film with a more talented director. or even someone who has studied michael hanneke Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is all about suspense and mood. It draws you in slowly, pacing its narrative out methodically and very effectively. Although quite dark at times, there is definitely a black humour to it, and the actors all shine in their various roles. Some twists didn't feel as necessary, but the pay off was worth it. Beautifully shot and very well directed, and a powerful lead performance which all help to lift this film up above it's low-budget. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not Harry Jensen but if I was I'd like to be as good as Gareth Reeves is in this appealing little digital feature. Of note are the performances of Gareth and Cameron Rhodes who has seldom felt more real. The others in this story give generous performances that support the narrative ably. This is a close film, mainly because the wide shots betray its digital origination, but the pace is right the sound and score adding significantly to the tension and all in all a movie well worth the price of admission. It's exciting to see how technology it making inroads for new talent to really seek that all important broad audience- if you like the gentle thriller/killer genre then this makes for a great little night out- all credit to the team surrounding James Napier Robertson. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A perfectly workmanlike little Kiwi thriller. The big pitch was surely "Deliverance meets Ten Little Indians meets Barton Fink", treading ground as it does, already covered many times by others but with some nice little character moments. It's particularly pleasing to see the old acting firmament of Ian Mune and Ilona Rodgers still strutting their stuff through the dense NZ bush.
