Chuck O'Leary Fantastica Daily If you're a sucker for prison movies like I am, you might just enjoy this surprisingly decent direct-to-DVD Van Damme title. Rated: 3/5 Oct 15, 2005 Full Review Scott Weinberg eFilmCritic.com As long as movies are not required to play theatrically before hitting the DVD shelves, we'll have plenty of new Van Damme flicks to make fun of. Rated: 1.5/5 Jul 1, 2004 Full Review John J. Puccio Movie Metropolis ...another bloody, run-of-the-mill action yawner. Rated: 4/10 Dec 2, 2003 Full Review Caffeinated Clint Moviehole A slipshod, boring, foreign production... There's little story, some woeful dialogue, and not even the production values are deserving of praise Rated: 1/5 Sep 23, 2003 Full Review Read all reviews

Jeff R Gratuitous and unrelenting violence, in other words...TRASH Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Louis G Horrible! Typical Jean Claude film, full of himself and full of, well not acting skills that's for sure. He's part of my top ten list of worst actors! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review DanTheMan 2 Honestly, I wouldn't have thought that In Hell was a direct-to-video release given the filmmaking quality is leagues above other DTV films I've seen from this era with Ringo Lam delivering an adaptation of Alan Parker's Midnight Express. Lam's patented brutality and kinetic energy, even in a movie that feels much more cliched than his previous ones, kept me engrossed and with Jean-Claude Van Damme allowing himself to get vulnerable, even if the movie relies too much on familiar setups and homoeroticism, it leads to a film that is rarely boring despite the corniness and seriousness being at extreme odds with each other. The music doesn't help in the slightest. While this movie certainly isn't great, the ending being simply ridiculous, it's a perfectly watchable movie despite these issues as it remains thoroughly gripping and engaging throughout, easily scratching an itch of many Van Damme fans. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review Liz M I have to admit to being an old time Jean-Claude Van Damme fan, and I was excited when I saw this come up on today's TV lineup. I had not seen it when it came back out 20 years ago. I have to admit that I'm glad I didn't and I have to admit that I wish I hadn't watched it today. It was pretty awful. Van damme at one of his worst points for sure, I'm guessing it was filmed in Czechoslovakia or some place like that, is a very heavy Eastern European crew involved. Overall really poorly made, poorly scored, poorly acted, and a big let down. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Transformer , Anime F JCVD shows that he can fight he's way out of prison, it might take him a while but in the end he makes it out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/22 Full Review Audience Member About what you'd expect. If you like gritty, R-rated guy movies with that 80's and 90's feel to them then you'll probably score this on the positive side despite a familiar and weak plot that lacked finality and a strong ending.
