Siblings Violeta and Eva live in California with their mother, but every summer they travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to spend time with their loving but unpredictable father, Vicente (René "Residente" Pérez Joglar). Over the course of four formative summers that span adolescence to early adulthood, Violeta and Eva learn to appreciate their father as a person, his flaws and limitations inseparable from his passion and tenderness. Lovers come and go, the backyard goes to seed, but the idea of home remains knotty and elusive. This powerful and deeply personal directorial debut from Alessandra Lacorazza offers a nuanced study of young people questioning their place within their families, their communities, and their identities. Winner of the US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, In The Summers proves both an emotional capsule of growing up within a fragmented family and a love letter to the resilience needed to survive.

Greg R You wanna be miserably unfulfilled? THIS is your movie. Incredible filming. Incredible acting. Solid writing. And, for nothing. This is a heartbreaking movie that ends precisely the way it begins. Expect nothing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Agnieszka P Super moving with great performence of Residence Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Andrei D I little too melodramatic but works and the acting is top notch, especially the father Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Kristina J This movie moves full circle from all is well to all is bad and back to all is well (kinda). It’s deep, emotional and moves a bit slow at times. It will hit home with many people since divorce is a wide spread part of many lives. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Mar C A beautiful and emotional movie with great dialogues and better acting. René Pérez-Joglar and all the actresses that perform the daughters at different ages are incredible. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Evan C Sundance's #InTheSummers is a deeply personal portrait of two sisters who spend the summer with their problematic father, told over multiple years. While it didn't quite come together for me emotionally, there's an authenticity & tenderness that will surely resonate with many. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
