Guy Lodge Variety It's as a modest but dedicated showcase for [Mora] Arenillas, her face alive with fear, exasperation and questioning even when her character feels most depleted, that "Invisible" sticks most stubbornly in the mind. Audience Member LOL, it's so funny and original, because it's better in the English-dubbed version with a voice cast and English subtitles. It is also in Spanish with English subtitles. All ages are admitted, and not ****ing ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie addresses a very serious topic, abortion in countries where pregnancy termination is against the law. In this case, the story unfolds in Argentina. We follow Ely (Mora Arenillas), a teenager that gets pregnant of a work colleague. She goes to high school and works part time in a veterinarian clinic/shop. The father of Ely's baby/fethus is a work colleague and son of the owner of the veterinarian place where Ely works. Pablo Giorgelli, the writer and director, goes to the extreme trying to make the central character Invisible. Ely leads what seems to be a joyless life. No connection with her mother that is suffering from severe depression, no involvement in school. She seems to have the one friend, which is the only person that assists her in the illegal abortion process, but even the relationship between them is flat. The casual sexual encounters that are portrayed seem mechanic and deprived of any human connection. There are many ways of telling this story, in what seems to me an attempt to make us understand just how invisible the character is, Giorgelli missed the subtleties of good storytelling. The movie is boring. Actually, this 'boring' should be written with several O's, one vowel is simply not enough. You will spend around one hour of your movie watching establishing shots. Literally, the first 10 minutes of the movie you are invited to look at Mora Arenillas's expressionless face while she goes to and back from school/work and watches TV. Fifty minutes of establishing shot in a 90 minutes movie is simply too much. On a movie that went out the same year in spanish, "The Motive (El Autor)" establishing shots are used with much more talent by director Manuel Martín Cuenca. In this case, he needed no more than 5 minutes of establishing shots and very clever clues to the audience to unconsciously understand how hollow and alone the character is. Giorgelli has much to improve on that point, if we take this single movie as subject of observation. The one star I am rating this movie, is simply because it does not actively step on the politics side of the discussion, which would be cheap, in my opinion. Whether that was the creator's intention or not, I don't know, but it delivers a movie that covers an important issue with an unbiased atmosphere. For that, it gets one full star. Other than that, the movie is uninspired, flat and long (even if it has only 87 min!). Its tedious storytelling peaks when Ely is paying a medical bill with 4 stacks of bills and one of the 87 minutes is fully wasted on a secondary character silently counting cash in front of the camera. While there are fantastic quiet and slow paced stories that are told with great talent out there, keeping your attention and interest, not all cinematographers will be able to produce one of those. Giorgelli did not capture all the details necessary to make Ely's story a great one. I don't recommend that you spend your time on this movie. 2/10. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member . Unless you enjoy watching multiple shots of someone walking, sitting in a bus, opening doors, sleeping and general staring with no conversation.. don't waste your time There are maybe 3 minutes of footage worth watching in this one Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Assisti no cinema numa sala com 7 ou 8 pessoas... o filme tem uma sutileza e simplicidade únicas. Um retrato da realidade que pouco percebemos e que muitos se esquivam. Muito recomendado, principalmente agora, num momento em que discutimos o aborto no país Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
