Audience Member Classic modern day horror of putting unlikable characters together to die, and sadly Tony Todd couldn't save it in his wasted role here. Spending about 50 mins of it's 90 min runtime before picking up into actual "horror", leading to mostly off screen deaths. Until you hit the basic slashing scenes. Also, spending too much time trying to develop characters in the opening, only to never have them grow. Any chance to grow? Nope, fall back on their flawed personality trait. Also, none of the teen understanding the deaf character can read lips, and that they understand everything they say. Yet, they assume she doesn't. Teen Characters -guy with pregnant girlfriend, which doesn't matter to plot. Brother of jerk guy as they will love to remind you. Failed development. -semi nice guy that lets jerk friend be a jerk -jerk friend goes around being basic bully -girl with creepy possibly abusive father who's a perv -boy crazy girl who's sad jerk guy doesn't like her -deaf girl, and that's literally it. They couldn't even frame it well for most of her signing. -spoiled girl -whining entitled guy -albino guy who tries to fill the logic role after pregnant girl guy failed -random guy that only real part was dying Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Jack the Reaper is another recycled "Carnival of Horror" slasher film that has stiff performances and a very predictable twist ending. From a character standpoint, these idiots aren't even worth rooting for in the slightest, and from a set-em-up and kill-em-off standpoint, the kills are too lazy and uncreative to forgive the lack of character interest. Like a sadist's version of the Energizer bunny, it just keeping going and going and going and going, and when the slasher monster finally shows up, you no longer care; you just hope he kills off all the teens if it means they shut up and stop making really stupid decisions. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Typical "Teens in an isolated location" slasher, but a couple of things stood out. I have NEVER seen a film of this type feature TEN different teenage characters. The Asian, the fat kid, the cheerleader, the "emo" kid, the handsome loner, the jock, the token black guy, the deaf girl?, the good guy, AND the girl next door. Not only were there WAY too many characters (many of whom were completely unexplained and left off screen for several minutes at a time, only reappearing just in time to be killed), but you have to wait until 55 minutes into the film for one of them to finally kick the bucket. 55 minutes!!! 55!!! The movie is only 86 minutes long! It really reached a new level of terrible. A typical element of these types of films is the fact that the characters make stupid decisions on how to handle a crisis (as discussed in "The Cabin in the Woods"), but there is just NO WAY anyone would ever react the way the students did. At all. Never. Couldn't happen. I also have to point out that the existence of the carnival was completely off topic for the film. They never explained why there was a carnival in the middle of nowhere, and also, why it was deserted yet fully operational. A positive would definitely be the fact that the name of the high school referenced appropriate Greek mythology, and also the ending, while predictable, at least made an effort to be unique. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrible film thank the lord it was a free Netflix watch. I say SKIP IT!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Didn't the sailor at the start of the movie look like James Caan? I actually liked the movie a little bit more than I thought I would. It really wasn't all that bad & it wasn't all that great but it was OK.I think it is worth taking a look if you're looking for a Horror flick & you got some time to waste. The thing I didn't understand at all is after the trip to the railroad museum & being warned about a killer named Railroad Jack, You'd think the kids would end up at a railroad & not a carnival. The best thing about the movie was Harold AKA Christopher Raff.He was funny at times & a little creepy.I'd like to see him in more movies & Railroad Jack was just straight up scary looking!
