Michael W This military movie was great. Yuri Borisov, Olga Lerman, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. This true story about Mikhail Kalashnikov, the inventor of the AK-47 assault rifle, was dramatic and inspirational. It's about never giving up on your passion no matter how long it takes to get recognition. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review David C This movie is very interesting for a Marine like me who served in combat. The AK 47 is the best small arm combat rifle ever made. The movie is not a documentary so there is of course a romantic scenes to keep the audience attention. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Erik C An well made biography of an interesting Soviet inventor. For a movie the film does a creditable job of conveying the invention process as well as the design and mechanics of the final AK-47. Sadly the version I saw was dubbed in English ... it would have been nice to hear the actors conversing in their native Russian. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review yehuda h I have to admit that I couldn't watch more than 10 minutes of this film. I had initially worried that Americans playing Russians would come across, as it usually does, very badly. This was worse. The film is actually Russian with Russian actors but is so badly dubbed into English, that it loses all dramatic effect. Reading the script would have been more entertaining. I'm hoping that somewhere, this film exists in the original language but with English subtitles. If it does, I might give it another try. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review bill s You will learn some history. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review corkball I get this is a biopic, so some of the dramatic sequence will feel off. I enjoyed most of this movie, the story of how Mikhail Kalashnikov overcame adversity, got the girl, and invented the AK47 - not necessarily in that order. The characters are likeable enough, and there are some chuckles here and there. I didn't really ever sense a feeling of urgency to the film. He is wounded during WW2, and then while recovering starts working on a machine gun design to fix the crap soldiers are given at the front. But the AK47 isn't even finished until 1947, so it doesn't really do any good. The whole film feels a bit Pollyannaish - 'hey let's all pull together for the motherland', even to the point of fighting a political snitch and then making up with him. Huh? The love interest is just kind of there in the background, and while she makes him work for it, there is no sense of will they won't they. And as typical for Russian flicks, the dubbing is awful. I bet this movie is a full star better in native Russian. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
