Grandly uninspired but passionately directed, Kong: Skull Island presents many ingenious one-liners and satisfying reinvigorations of classic archetypes that are frustratingly undone by a frantically uneven execution and far too many 70's hits for what would ordinarily be considered 'sensical'.

I can't say I have watched a movie by mistake, then discovered I had a new movie in my all time favourites like this one. Just a good laugh from start to finish. I have heard folk say it has plot holes and isn't believable... It's a movie about a gigantic ape and a mysterious island... It delivers exactly what it say on its tin. Hard to improve on really. Oh wait... Godzilla vs Kong omg! 🤣

Kong: Skull Island offers an exhilarating and entertaining action-packed adventure that provides a somewhat original backstory for the legendary King Kong. The film is set in the vibrant 1970s and boasts stunning visuals reminiscent of Apocalypse Now, particularly during the intense action sequences where the human characters confront formidable monsters. Overall, it’s a fun and refreshing take on the Kong franchise. Grading: B
