      Critics Consensus

Kung Fu Yoga may enchant fans with its charismatic fights and exotic locations, but the plot stretches like an uncomfortably long downward dog.

Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint Not even Jackie Chan can save this ill-advised mash-up. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Anupama Chopra Hindustan Times Once in a while I see a film that is hypnotic in its awfulness; which means it's so bad that you can't look away. Kung Fu Yoga is one such film. Rated: 1/5 Feb 3, 2017 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Kung-Fu Yoga scratches fans' itch for no-nonsense, no-pretense Chan fare - in which he isn't second-banana to a Western star, or married to a director who thinks VFX are required to make Chan's stunts more impressive. Feb 3, 2017 Full Review Harris Dang The AU Review Kung Fu Yoga is a massive disappointment for fans of Jackie Chan, fans of cinema, Indian fans, Indian people in general and is just a complete embarrassment for all involved. Rated: 1/5 Nov 3, 2018 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com Kung-Fu Yoga works because of the numerous scenes of fantastic hand-to-hand combat that are often punctuated with a comedic tone. Rated: 3/5 Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... the film is a mess, split between a bunch of characters and jumping genres at every cut, with a juvenile humor clearly aimed at younger audiences. Idan Charles L An entertaining watch, but don't watch it if you want plot Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review john N The plot was terrible, and unrealistic. And so was the writing, and acting. The action scenes were the only redeemable quality. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review robert n I tried, I really did. But 40 minutes in i realized I'd lost time I'd never get back and decided to cut my losses. Jackie, you used to be my favorite actor! So full of life, energetic, and involved in your role. This movie had you looking like a captive forced into a role you hated, with the threat of your family being shipped off to the Xinjiang province of you failed to perform. Sir, you sold your soul to the state, and I feel sad for you. Tbh, the other actors actually looked more involved and interested in the plot, even though their acting was like watching a 1950's movie involving a giant lizard and trains. There was nothing worthy of my time in the first 40 minutes, and the trajectory was only going downward in a spiraling motion. This movie has left me despondent in the fact that a once giant in movies has slumped to below b rated movies. I can only imagine it did so well in China either through coercion, or that the people of China thought they had been rewarded with a great actor and were attempting to show their support, with the hopes of finally seeing an world famous actor from China. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review morigu p Way Way over the top, even for Jackie. Even with that in mind I would have given it maybe 3 stars but the ending just flat out blew! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Lots of plot holes and cheesy lines, but it's Jackie Chan so it was entertaining. That dance number! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/16/22 Full Review Audience Member My only complaint is that the only song-and-dance number doesn't come until the final scene, and really doesn't have enough shot-by-shot costume changes. Other than that, if you love cheesy kung fu movies and you love Hindi films with long, meandering "plots," this movie has almost everything… just not nearly enough full-cast dance numbers. That one musical is a gem though, a fun mashup of Chinese choral pop, Hindi full-cast synchronized dancing, and a few K-pop moves thrown in for an unexpected garnish. My family danced through the credits and then went through the whole musical number twice more. For a guy who does all his own stunts, Jackie Chan is a strangely stiff dancer (maybe it was the ascot?) which just added to the bizarre charm of this gem.
