Nicolas Vanier's hybrid documentary stages events and uses nonactors to tell the story of a year in the life of Norman Winther, a real-life trapper who lives off the land in northern Canada with his wife. During this time he hunts, fishes and interacts with nature. He is also seen suffering the loss of one of his beloved huskies and is later saved by his newest dog. Audience Member Scenery and huskies are the real stars. People and dialogue add a small bit but much is unsaid and not explained. A gentle pseudo-doc of a lifestyle now past. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I really liked it. The movie is rather slow but there's a sense of adventure and some amazing scenes for people who appreciate mountain man movies. Like the scene where the guy is making his way down the river in the canoe and his dog is chasing after him along the edge. It's a scene that most people would find forgettable, but the thing I found most interesting about the movie is just watching how he lives his life. I like that it feels like a documentary. I also thought his relationship with his dogs was interesting and kind of cute. He acts coldly toward a new dog until she proves herself to him. It could be seen as cruel. I just saw it as a nice, authentic touch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A movie that brings emotions during the whole movie, the viewer get involved easily with the dogs Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member D'une magistrale beaute ! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
