Bruce McCabe Boston Globe Francis Veber's The Toy is a droll, charming French comedy which transforms its implausible premise from its slapstick potential into a moving and meaningful film. Apr 27, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The film you can hardly imagine being shot today 'The Toy' deals with the arguable topics of a human exploitation, family communications, capitalism versus socialism etcetera. A surprising dramatic performance of Richard only adds more depth to the dense and unconventional storytelling. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Pierre Richard shows how he is the funniest french actor from his era. The french version of the great Gene Wilder. Le Jouet is a wonderful story of a boy who buys a man to show his dad that its not all about money but about being there for the kid. With plenty of humor it also shows a message that live isn't about being wealthy but having an impact in someone's life. the music is fantastic and screenplay is sharp and witty and shows how french cinema is just as great as american at doing comedy right . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A nice comedy flick with a very unusual storyline Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The concept is great but (surprisingly) nor Veber nor Pierre Richard manage to transform it into an enjoyable comedy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Very funny comedy from a greaaat series of movies, started in the beginning of the 70's and from who the last movie will come soon. These movies r always involving the character François Perrin, or François Pignon, both played several times by 1 of the french comedies' kings, Pierre Richard. 10 of these movies r directed by Francis Veber, the creator of this idiot blunderer but moving and deeply nice. The perfect victim. A lot of these movies have been remade, and so, this character has been played by Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Martin Short, and Richard Pryor, in "The Toy", the remake of this movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Une parodie social à plusieurs niveaux de compréhension. Superbe!
