During the invasion of Parthia, two Roman legions have been brought to a standstill in the snowy mountains of Armenia, leaving them slowly dying in the freezing cold. The rest of the Roman army is two weeks' march away, and the region swarms with Parthian patrols. Their only hope for survival is Noreno, a half-Roman soldier, who is entrusted with the impossible mission of crossing the deadly terrain to save two legions.

THe movie did have some good parts, mainly the scenery. The acting for the most part was not a stellar performance, Visually most of the characters were believable, except for the transvestite Roman general. Bai lings acting was good. But an asian being in this part of the world at that time is not believable either.

He runs, he falls. His friends get killed, Mickey Rourke in an eye patch, lip filler and french tips is gleefully talking to a bust of Nero, bragging about not sending help. Like a sad knock off of Marlon Brando in Apocolypse Now. And he runs and falls.

i hate professional critics, most have which rate their movies like they are stuck between "TECHNICAL ALLEY' and BACK IN THE GOLDEN DAYS OF CINEMA". Granted at first and 2nd glance Mickey Rourke reading lines from this movie would seem like asking Rocky Balboa to read Shakespeare. However Rourke's punch drunk boxer looks and voice lend to a man who is torn between duty to the Legion and his emperor Nero. Yes, the runner runs alot, a monument to his task, encounters enemy and friend alike only to be told his run might have been for nothing. Bai Ling has a small part, but then i have been in love with Bai ling since the first time i saw her in THE CROW in 1994 Is it an outstanding movie, NO. Is it a great movie, too some. But i think it is a credible piece of work and deserves to be seen and judged by others of a more "UNINFORMED" audience.
