Critics Consensus

Similar to the original in all the right ways -- but with enough changes to stand on its own -- Let Me In is the rare Hollywood remake that doesn't add insult to inspiration.

Kaleem Aftab Independent (UK) Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has been charged with filling Alfredson's considerable boots, and he does a fine job of not steering too far from the original, while also putting his own stamp on the vampire tale. May 15, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Exploring the world of good and evil is a common theme in cinema, but few have been able to create such a fine line between the two as cleverly done in Let Me In. Rated: B+ Sep 9, 2017 Full Review Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) Let Me In doesn't need to exist unless, that is, the very notion of Swedish cinema is strange and unpalatable to you. Rated: 2/5 Oct 14, 2014 Full Review Stephanie Archer Film Inquiry Let Me In works through its entirety to showcase both a balance in love and sacrifice. Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Griping about the differences between the two will become a losing battle for anyone who favors Let Me In, if only because the original has the advantage of being The Original. But these are both well-crafted horror films. Rated: 3/4 Aug 3, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Let me in allows us to enter a world beyond the grave, with protector and the protected in a morbid skin and bones pact. Alejandra C An adaptation from an original. I think they both suck but i cant put one star on both because one of them was actually worse. I dont know why they hyped this up so hard. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/25 Full Review Zeferino P. As good as the original This remake was made to update the original not to change it I appreciate what they did with it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Ian R I hadn't seen the original and didn't know what to expect. This might be a vampire movie, but it is such an original film. The cast is excellent and I was caught by the story very early on. I'm not sure it could be called a twist, but there is a fascinating turn in the plot that both explains the past and future. One of the better films I have seen in years. Just don't expect a happy kind of story, it is actually deeply sad. Well worth the time to watch it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/25 Full Review Jeff B Absolute trash when compared to the original Swedish movie, "Let the Right One In". Watch the original, it's better in every way. Just like Insomnia (1997) - Hollywood takes a great foreign film and does a money grab whilst losing everything that made the original movie so great. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Mike D Between "Cloverfield" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," Matt Reeves directed this little gem that I only recently watched. I knew of it, but resisted since I was a fan of the Swedish original, "Let the Right One In." Reeves did a wonderful job directing his two young leads -- Smit-McPhee and Moretz -- and added just enough new touches to the American version that it's more than worth a viewing. He tightened the pace by removing a couple of unnecessary scenes from the original. Richard Jenkins also adds extra depth as the "father" of the vampire. I debated between four and five stars, but deducted one star because it's a remake that came about so quickly after the original. Both films deserve a viewing, and which one you like more may depend on which one you watch first. Don't judge it because it's a remake; judge it on its own merits. It's quite good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 1 hour and 55 minutes!!!!!!!!!
