it's very hard to keep morale up when it's clear the war is swinging in the other direction, which is exactly what letters is trying to portray. with sporadic scenes of action, letters focuses more on the soldiers' efforts to find reasons for fighting a losing war.
not a typical run-and-gun war movie, but one which explores the depths of the fighting men and their will to fight.

if you are looking for cgi effects, huge explosions and mindless killing, this movie is not for you. The pace of the movie falls somewhere between the thin red line and saving private ryan.
this movie is what I call art, I highly recommend it
