Anton Bitel Little White Lies plays out like a reimagining of The Wicker Man, although that film’s uptight male Christian copper has become a laid-back female vicar whose maternal status challenges the original’s patriarchal values. Jan 10, 2024 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Director William Brent Bell (best known for the insipid Orphan prequel Orphan: First Kill) can’t work up a proper head of suspense, no matter how many poppets made of human hair and twigs he hangs on trees... Rated: 2/5 Jan 2, 2024 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Lord of Misrule can’t fully escape the trappings established by quintessential folk horror films like The Wicker Man, but Bell gives it his all to subvert many of the tropes and make it entertaining. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 8, 2023 Full Review Sebastian Zavala Kahn Me gusta el cine Much could have been done with all this material, but “Lord of Misrule” ends up doing very little, resulting in an occasionally interesting experience, but one generally lacking in ambition and atmosphere. Rated: 2/5 Mar 7, 2024 Full Review Ian Bunting Daily Record (UK) The mystery at the heart of Lord of Misrule never quite grips the way it aims to and the ending is a little too convenient. Feb 14, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Despite feeling occasionally familiar and predictable, it's strong performances, superb visuals and tangible atmosphere make it worth a watch. Ineson and Middleton excel, and the folklore vibes are unmatched. Rated: 3/5 Jan 30, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Hugo S The new vicar of a small English town embarks on a dangerous journey to find her daughter who goes missing during the local harvest festival. "Lord Of Misrule" tackles the folklore and pagan traditions of a local community rooted in old and dark beliefs. Despite a satisfying final act, the movie replicates all the clichés of the subgenre it represents. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Farah R While it’s not a Wickerman copycat, Lord of Misrule is a close imitation of the classic’s core concepts. The story plays out as expected with every puzzle piece falling into place to reach a foreseeable conclusion. Even the supposed plot twist at the end wasn’t enough to shake off how little was original. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Magic F This is not your typical story, and it does not take the expected roads. If that's what you're looking for, you'll be disappointed. It sets itself up for typical good vs evil, but that's not the only thing going on. Ultimately it goes in new directions and I love the idea that it isn't saying that pagans of old are evil, and it isn't saying that Christ drives out all evil. It's saying that beliefs are real, but people make them good or evil. That's a much more difficult message to convey in a story. This is my favorite folk horror I've seen yet, highly recommend if you're looking for a good story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review nilufer e Hell, no. It was predictable and boring. Started not so bad but turned out to be cliched pretty quickly. The Vicar was cool but the rest was plain boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Jerod S Their daughter goes missing at a creepy harvest festival. Turns out the whole town sacrifices children to the town demon. Think Wickerman. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/24 Full Review Jared C Loved it. I don’t get the hate. Not a Wicker Man copy cat. I liked that her character was a minister and it didn’t go the route of exorcist/the power of Christ compels you bs..she had to abandon god to find her child. I also loved that simply facing the demon made it go away but no one had been brave enough to do it. Also, Ralph Ineson is just a dominant presence every time. Not a perfect ending, wish the townspeople hadn’t killed the husband in horrific fashion or else it’d be more realistic to see them all smiling in church that next Sunday. But I think it was as good an ending as it could’ve possibly been outside of burning that village to the ground. 9/10 cult classic incoming Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
