Noel Murray The Playlist While its story moves forward in a way that makes sense, Du Welz's pacing is too slow and too choppy for the movie to build up much momentum. Rated: C+ Sep 17, 2016 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A brooding, gritty revenge flick geared as a throwback to American cinema of yesteryear, when the sleazy metropolis was a favored go-to for cinematic dens of iniquity. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 10, 2019 Full Review Kiko Vega Espinof The screenplay by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell is custom designed for the brutality of the Belgian director Fabrice Du Welz. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 6, 2019 Full Review William Evans Black Nerd Problems Was this a terrible movie? No, not by any means. It just wasn't that great, even if the vehicle felt very ripe for Boseman. Jun 13, 2018 Full Review José Martín El antepenúltimo mohicano Better directed than written and with some sound performances from the entire cast, the film is, however, covered with a hopeless and melancholy air... [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Nov 28, 2017 Full Review Jeffrey Lyles Lyles' Movie Files Instead of being the next Equalizer, it's a slower paced investigative revenge piece that's lacking a harder edge. Kevin M I just watched it and liked it. Good action. I love the chain. Also, wish I saw more of Teresa Palmer. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Jim H formula picture. slow pace. at the end forgettable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Brett C I quiet licked ITT aktoooalley ✓✓✓✓ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review J G Starts off kind of prommising, and then just gets worse and worse. And worse. What a waste of talented actors. Even the 'good guys' played by charismatic actors are kinda awful two dimensional caricatures. A revenge flick where none of the revenge feels satisfying, there are no lessons, none of the motivations make any sense. Just so slow. Dreary scene after dreary scene. Baffling as there are so many opportunities for something nice to happen, and the director always chooses the weird, unnecessarily creepy direction - often with no rhyme or reason or conclusion. Boseman makes such an effort to develop his boring character, but it just goes nowhere. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/23 Full Review Jamie F I watched it over 6 times..its definitely a good one in my book...the actor did the role very good you can sense his emotions when he did his best to find out what happened to his sister..and what's amazing this who time he was a strong black king a leader from Africa...it's sad that this movie need more recognition than it deserves... anything with a black king in it holly wood and white washed america is gonna disown it...and that's facts.. 🤞 but it's one of favorites 🙉 💜❤️it's amazing how he switched personalities he definitely played that role very good the movie is a sucess Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review T T Overall, it's a good movie. The story is good and the acting is good too. The only major problem is the lack of character development. There were too many characters unnecessarily crammed into the movie without any in-depth and real development. These characters did not add anything to the story. On the contrary, they made the storyline seem a little messy and all over the place, at times. Other than that, the movie was entertaining.
