      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Though The Mexican makes a good attempt at originality, its ponderous length makes it wear out its welcome. Also, those looking forward to seeing Roberts and Pitt paired up may end up disappointed, as they are kept apart for most of the movie.

Dani G Lots of silliness, and some fun. But a very forgettable film. I was glad to see that many familiar mexican faces in various minor roles Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review bob c I watched it for about ten minutes. Terrible. Pitt at his early career bad. I'm glad they persisted with him because he got a lot better. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review donnie m i enjoyed this movie but something i noticed in almost every movie Brad Pitt is in-he's chewing or eating while talking and it's GROSS Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 02 hours: and 03 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Starring Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt as lovers crossing into Mexico from United States of America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They marry there!!!!!!!!!! And co-starring J.K. Simmons as Ted!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/23 Full Review robert p Too long and so mixed up, it lasted a longtime and I just barely had the patience to sit through the movie!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review r 9 Silly entertainment! 'The Mexican' works as a comedy and works as an adventure road trip flick, so it evidently achieved what it set out to do. This 2001 release features a strong cast, as we get Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts together alongside James Gandolfini, J. K. Simmons and Gene Hackman. I enjoyed all five, especially the first three. It's not a film to be taken overly serious, it's one to enjoy and I got a lot of enjoyment from it - credit to Gore Verbinski & Co. Recommended? Definitely! Christy Lemire Associated Press The Mexican is sporadically entertaining. It works when Gandolfini is on screen; when he leaves, he takes the movie with him. Oct 25, 2018 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek Brad and Julia, of course, look great. Buy the poster; skip the movie. Mar 6, 2018 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media An interesting mess for older teens and up. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine There is a lot of fun to be had with this film, despite it’s relatively uneven nature. Rated: 6/10 Mar 27, 2024 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia As a dark comedy it has a somewhat appealing visual style, but its journey across the Mexican wasteland becomes downright dull and it falls to the ground like a stray bullet. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/10 May 10, 2023 Full Review Mitchell Beaupre Paste Magazine Gene Hackman holds the responsibility of conveying the entire history of a character, the entire core of who this man is, in a single scene. He manages it without breaking a sweat. Rated: 6.5/10 Sep 22, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
