Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times Though "Mission Blue" gets its title from Earle's nonprofit organization, the film rarely comes across as propaganda. Audience Member Every creature must watch this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member If humanity only understood the significant damage they are doing to this planet... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The documentary Mission Blue focuses on the life of the famous female scientist Sylvia Earle. The video clearly targets the normal lay person within society, and attempts to persuade them to understand the severe conditions that the environment is in. The communication of their message is very successful because they include how these environmental factors affect every person's personal life and survival on earth. The video does a great job of explaining the scientific knowledge in clear terms, and provides a wealthy amount of visual evidence. For example, the film shows comparisons of healthy corral (in footage taken years ago) in comparison to the current status. The severity of damage in the corral reef is captured live in the film, and you can see how genuinely upset Sylvia is when she sees it. Although very educational, the audience is left with a feeling of fear. Sylvia states things like, "no ocean, no life". The film includes immense amounts of information about man-made problems such as depletion of the coral reefs and overfishing. Sylvia states herself that it is not too late for humanity to change its course, however the film lacks strong examples of how to do that. Towards the end, it discusses the Mission Blue organization that is located in Australia. It would have been more effective for Sylvia to explain from a scientist point of view (expertise) the exact things we can change in our daily lives that can make a impact besides cutting fish out of our diet. I think it would not have left the audience feeling productive, but increased the efficiency the video overall. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Mission Blue is both aesthetically pleasing and jam packed with information. It let's the audience (including me) to truly see and feel Earle's passion in saving the ocean. I am a sentimental/emotional person, so the film's strong use of pathos got me to put myself in her shoes and see the world - and ocean - through her eyes, making me feel inclined to do something to better the treatment of our seas. Truly a beautiful film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This documentary is very inspirational and motivating. It's remarkable how much effort and dedication Sylvia Earle has put into saving the ocean and it's creatures. This film really captivates others into joining this "mission" on saving the sea. This documentary will influence you into help spread awareness on the issue stated in the film and is truly a project everyone should be a part of. I really enjoyed watching this and I would recommend this documentary to others! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Mission Blue does a great job in explaining the drastic issues that are lingering in our oceans today such as tragedy of commons and toxic wastes. Taking a deeper look into the minds of marine biologists like Sylvia Earle who can very easily put things into perspective. Using her many years of experience as an environmentalist to help our oceans longevity for future generations. Now with this film it is possible for people of all ages and all eras to come together and begin to think differently. All in all Mission Blue is an insightful documentary with a great purpose and main goal to keep the Earth at its finest. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
