Anton Bitel Little White Lies Benny Chan’s feature merges crime flick and romance, while teasing out these genres’ differences. Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Kathy Fennessy Video Librarian Magazine Though Jo Jo turns 17 during the film, the age difference doesn't play as well now as it did in 1990, and her deference to Wah Dee verges on the masochistic, not least when he roughs her up, but A Moment of Romance is never less than engaging. Rated: 3.5/5 May 15, 2024 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness "A Moment of Romance" is not the kind of film that fits neatly into one genre, but instead fits into several in a way that’s some kind of miracle. Aug 21, 2023 Full Review Olivia Popp Asian Movie Pulse Put simply, “A Moment of Romance” has it all — fiery action and stunt sequences, an unforgettable love story, quick-witted humor, a beautiful score, sweeping cinematography, and more. Luca D A good action movie. Not as good as As Tears Go By but the different directors have different styles. This could be a good icebreaker into Chinese action movies if someone is trying to get started. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Sugar 90s Hong Kong movies are the best. Benny Chan's first Directing Debut and Andy Lau is the best. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the well known Andy Lau early movie. Ng rush over and kill Tommy. Andy died in the fight. Jacklyn walk around trying to find Andy... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Starts off with Andy Lau super cool, like an asian Tom Cruise circa 1990. Then it goes on to be a 80-minute "cool" romance movie (so like, it's a romance tale but crammed with crime action, lol)

Actually it's pretty good. Became an imitated film. You can kind of feel the 90s are about to happen! It's just ... a little bit corny is all, and don't think I'm hard-hearted, because I cried during Not One Less by Zhang Yimou. I guess this is made for teenagers and that's fine. Slight improvements to things like typical cheesy sound fx could've made this a 4 star for me but it might be better than that for youngsters during that era. I was not quite old enough yet and i just watched it in 2013. After 20 years it's not that fresh anymore but at the time I can see it being a 4.5 star film.

Ng Man Tat does great in an award-winning role that reminds of Christian Bale's oscar winning role in The Fighter. Also it's Benny Chan's first movie (big-name director of many great late 90s and 2000s movies including Who Am I, Gen-X Cops, Invisible Target and Shaolin)

The key is... any movie that got a sequel or two is always good during this era and region (or any era and region) so you won't be going wrong checking out movies like this, A Better Tomorrow, etc if you haven't already. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Classic Andy Lau ~ Another milestone picture in his long career as A Moment of Romance creates one of the most iconic roles for Andy: Wah Dee. Couldn't really get used to Ng Sin Lin's character until towards the end because she was supposed to play a 17-year old.. =S The soundtrack was great too! ~ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
