Matt Brunson Film Frenzy A sincere yet shaky drama that alternates between true grit and filmmaking glitz. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 12, 2023 Full Review Alejandro Turdó Hoy Sale Cine Move Ne No Mountain uses the homeless situation in the big cities as a vessel to explore inner human conflicts such as the pain of loss and suffering, while also nurturing the idead that there is always a way back home worth fighting for. Rated: 7/10 Jun 27, 2023 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com I appreciate Richards's fierce devotion to telling this story even if I don't ultimately resonate with the final product. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Jun 24, 2023 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast It could have been easy to sensationalise the situation or allow it to fall into melodrama. Thankfully Richards keeps that under a tight reign to hit the right emotional notes. Move Me No Mountain shines a light on the very real plight of many. Rated: 3/5 May 29, 2023 Full Review Christopher Machell CineVue Despite bright spots, issues compound on one another, chief among them being the depth of characterisation and the extent to which the film understands its own themes as intersectional products of systemic failure. Pat H Move Me No Mountain is absolutely gorgeously shot. The use of the sky in framing shots (with objects and people contrasted against, reflected into or mirrored by the great wide blue) lends a sense of possibility, consistency and purpose to a story that is, by its very nature, somewhat fragmented. This is serious and thoughtful filmmaking, always aware of the complexities bubbling beneath the surface of every person that we encounter. It's a remarkable film that's likely to stay with the viewer long after the credits have rolled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Kolo P Gritty, dirty and believable Following Jenna, the lead character after her daughter's accidental death it is pretty easy to root for and develop empathy for her journey into homelessness. I found Jenna's character very believable having worked around homeless ministries in the past and her gradual descent isn't overall graphic or overtly trying to showcase every single trait or obstacle that homeless people (or "street friends" as we know them) face on a daily basis. A few background characters could have done with less wooden performances but otherwise the cast were solid and engaging throughout the film. Pacing was good and it didn't seem to drop any of its rhythm despite jumping back and forth between the pre-Jenna story and the homeless Jenna. The cinematography is with out a doubt a high point with good artistic choices in locations, lighting and colour, and while there is a fair amount of narration from Jenna, its hard to be distracted by any of it. Overall 'Move Me No Mountain" is a very engaging film, which compelled me to want to see both a redemptive ending for Jenna as a character and a climax to the overall story. Definitely worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Ruby C "Move Me No Mountain" is a beautifully told story about Jenna and the grief and guilt she experiences after the death of her daughter. It's a story about redemption and finding peace with something so tragic as the loss of a child. After Jenna is no longer able to continue a "normal" life because of the guilt she feels, she leaves a known world behind for one that is unknown since she has nothing left to live for. The film beautifully humanizes the homeless experience by sharing what it is like being homeless in a big city and different reasons behind homelessness. We feel the harshness and loneliness she feels in the vastness of the dessert shots. It was both visually poetic and aesthetically pleasing as well as very well acted. The film gives us hope that compassion in humanity still exists. But also reminds us of the vast differences in the human experience. It makes you wonder if this was her destiny because of the outcome of the film. We sometimes experience a tragic event that reroutes our life because in the end we were destined for something else. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review Clark B Move Me No Mountain is a fascinating look at the homeless epidemic that plagues our country. For an independent film I was pleasantly surprised with how well it captivated me and kept my attention throughout. Writer/Director, Deborah Richards, did an excellent job with minimal dialogue portraying the mental and uncontrollable circumstances that can lead to homelessness. I applaud actress Cat Lellie for not shying away from portraying such a mentally broken and physically tarnished character. A lot of actresses would not want to be portrayed in this ugly light but she did a fascinating job at embracing the woundedness of the character both mentally and physically. The film was shot well and I was not distracted by the quality of the image or the sound. Overall for an independent film I quite enjoyed it. If you are up for a movie that makes you think and has a message to tell you then I would definitely give it a try! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Andrew W Move Me No Mountain is a gripping story of a woman who goes over the edge. J enna played by Cat Lellie is a successful real estate agent in Las Vegas when her life is shattered by a personal tragedy of someone close to her she refers to as "the incident" Overwhelmed with guilt and increasingly resentful towards society Jenna abandons her old life and decides to live to the mean streets of Las Vegas before descending into the hellish tunnels underneath the city. The visuals are stunning showing a part of Las Vegas far from the trappings and endless cliches of the tourist strip. Theres a powerful contrast between the wealth of the city and Jennas poverty. I like the way this film moves. The films narrative skilfully jumps in between the past present imagination and reality reflecting Jennas fractured psych and inner conflict without compromising the narrative. I also enjoyed the symbolism with water which plays a part showing our protagonist literally drowning in guilt and struggling to keep her head above it. Move Me No Mountain is a profound exploration of grief and an empathetic story from the perspective of the fringe dwellers and ever increasing marginalized like members of our society. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review J K This is a powerful and poignant exploration of grief, redemption, and the human spirit. Director Deborah Richards delivers a raw look at homelessness in Las Vegas, using it as a backdrop to examine deeper themes of loss and inner conflict. Cat Lellie gives a tour de force performance as Jenna, a realtor whose guilt over her daughter's death leads her to abandon everything for life on the streets. The film's gritty authenticity and purposeful editing create a haunting atmosphere, while its diverse cast of characters offers a nuanced portrayal of those society often overlooks. With echoes of "Nomadland," this indie gem avoids melodrama, instead opting for a heartfelt, eye-opening journey that reminds us there's always hope, even in the darkest of circumstances.
