Matt Brunson Film Frenzy A sincere yet shaky drama that alternates between true grit and filmmaking glitz. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 12, 2023 Full Review Alejandro Turdó Hoy Sale Cine Move Ne No Mountain uses the homeless situation in the big cities as a vessel to explore inner human conflicts such as the pain of loss and suffering, while also nurturing the idead that there is always a way back home worth fighting for. Rated: 7/10 Jun 27, 2023 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com I appreciate Richards's fierce devotion to telling this story even if I don't ultimately resonate with the final product. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Jun 24, 2023 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast It could have been easy to sensationalise the situation or allow it to fall into melodrama. Thankfully Richards keeps that under a tight reign to hit the right emotional notes. Move Me No Mountain shines a light on the very real plight of many. Rated: 3/5 May 29, 2023 Full Review Christopher Machell CineVue Despite bright spots, issues compound on one another, chief among them being the depth of characterisation and the extent to which the film understands its own themes as intersectional products of systemic failure. TRAVIS G I just watched the movie MOVE ME NO MOUNTAIN. The movie has a lot of strong scenes that I enjoyed watching and which were very comical. The movie is written & directed by Deborah Richards. This is a gritty and thematic movie which takes the hard look at a mom who loses her daughter and is now in Las Vegas. The movie has good dialogue and drama and scenes of friendship and camaraderie. It was also shot in a very cool way with many scenes that make you think deeply. The storyline pulls you in many directions as you're watching this movie. I thought all the lead actors all had great onscreen chemistry– they were great together. The sets are great for an indie movie. I look forward to what this director and filmmaker has coming up next! Check this movie out! You’ll remember it! Great themes and good acting and lots of drama! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Dzifa M Whewww!! This woman, Jenna, could not catch a break at all in this film. The actress who portrayed her really did well and executed multiple emotions needed to develop this story. The film explored loneliness, depression, anxiety, guilt, regret, hopelessness, homelessness, you name it. This film was pretty dark and casting did a great job of putting this cast together. You really feel for the main character as she tries to grab on to any kind of positivity she can before it’s snatched away from her. The world just keeps stomping on her head as the film goes on. Losing a child has to be an immeasurable pain to go through. The story closed with a bittersweet ending. I have to also show love to the crew as well. The cinematography, editing, makeup, sound, color grading, all of that was pretty good I have to say. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review Cinder C I’ve never seen an independent movie set in Las Vegas. What we think of Las Vegas is upended in this empathetic and moving film about one woman’s journey from personal tragedy to becoming houseless. The locations are really impressive and add a lot of character to the story. The cinematography is equally impressive and brings the characters, story, and emotional arc to life. The story jumps back and forth in time which was confusing at first but then really started to work for me. Performances are decent overall and the lead actor settles into the role as the film progresses. There are some really nice moments overall. At times melancholic and other times surreal, this is a solid movie that shines a light on how some may become houseless. It’s a sad story but I’m glad there was a happy ending full of hope. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Pat H Move Me No Mountain is absolutely gorgeously shot. The use of the sky in framing shots (with objects and people contrasted against, reflected into or mirrored by the great wide blue) lends a sense of possibility, consistency and purpose to a story that is, by its very nature, somewhat fragmented. This is serious and thoughtful filmmaking, always aware of the complexities bubbling beneath the surface of every person that we encounter. It's a remarkable film that's likely to stay with the viewer long after the credits have rolled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Kolo P Gritty, dirty and believable Following Jenna, the lead character after her daughter's accidental death it is pretty easy to root for and develop empathy for her journey into homelessness. I found Jenna's character very believable having worked around homeless ministries in the past and her gradual descent isn't overall graphic or overtly trying to showcase every single trait or obstacle that homeless people (or "street friends" as we know them) face on a daily basis. A few background characters could have done with less wooden performances but otherwise the cast were solid and engaging throughout the film. Pacing was good and it didn't seem to drop any of its rhythm despite jumping back and forth between the pre-Jenna story and the homeless Jenna. The cinematography is with out a doubt a high point with good artistic choices in locations, lighting and colour, and while there is a fair amount of narration from Jenna, its hard to be distracted by any of it. Overall 'Move Me No Mountain" is a very engaging film, which compelled me to want to see both a redemptive ending for Jenna as a character and a climax to the overall story. Definitely worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Ruby C "Move Me No Mountain" is a beautifully told story about Jenna and the grief and guilt she experiences after the death of her daughter. It's a story about redemption and finding peace with something so tragic as the loss of a child. After Jenna is no longer able to continue a "normal" life because of the guilt she feels, she leaves a known world behind for one that is unknown since she has nothing left to live for. The film beautifully humanizes the homeless experience by sharing what it is like being homeless in a big city and different reasons behind homelessness. We feel the harshness and loneliness she feels in the vastness of the dessert shots. It was both visually poetic and aesthetically pleasing as well as very well acted. The film gives us hope that compassion in humanity still exists. But also reminds us of the vast differences in the human experience. It makes you wonder if this was her destiny because of the outcome of the film. We sometimes experience a tragic event that reroutes our life because in the end we were destined for something else.
