What to Know

Critics Consensus

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium's title is much more fun that the film itself, as the colorful visuals and talented players can't make up for a bland story.

The film may occasionally strain too hard for magical whimsy, but there's no disputing its sweetness or poignancy. Go to Full Review

The trailers make the movie look like the ickiest kind of whimsy, accompanied by obstreperous special effects, but the film itself is gasp-worthy. Go to Full Review

Shawn B @ShawnieB 1d This movie is a revelatory allegory for life. Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Zach Mills, and Jason Bateman deliver flawless performances that bring this story to life. The store itself is a character in the movie, that brings touches of whimsical magic in all sorts of delightful ways. This movie can remind you of the magic that is available to us all. See more Jacob P. @MajorMelon Nov 29 Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium is one of those rare films that reminds you—gently, beautifully, and undeniably—that believing in yourself is a kind of magic all its own. Wrapped in whimsy and wonder, this movie tells a story that reaches far beyond its fantastical toy shop setting. At its core, it’s about rediscovering your inner child, embracing the parts of yourself you’ve forgotten, and learning that the impossible becomes possible the moment you trust in who you are. The film’s emotional depth is what makes it unforgettable. It’s tender without being overly sweet, whimsical without losing its sincerity. Watching Molly Mahoney grow into her confidence—and watching the Emporium respond to her belief—is genuinely moving, and the film delivers moments that are sure to bring on tears, even for the most stoic viewers. Every scene feels like a warm reminder of the beauty that still lives in imagination, creativity, and childlike wonder. Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium isn’t just a movie; it’s an experience that touches the heart, inspires the spirit, and lingers long after the credits roll. A truly enchanting 5-star gem. See more Hut 3 Sep 4 The toys are a red herring. This film is about hurting people being healed by one another with the guidance of its namesake. That’s the true magic. Makes me ache every time. Beautiful. See more Kalli S Aug 23 This is one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. Yes, at the beginning, some of the toy store effects weren't as special as the director may have wanted... Perhaps a bit overblown, but once you get past that (that falls somewhere between the beginning and the half way point), this movie is an absolute gem. The characters are truly made to stand together... Alone they do not make sense. This film made me appreciate inter-character dynamics more than any other film I've seen, where I'm so used to switching perspectives based on each character. Mr. M's speech is iconic. The line that shook me: "Your life is an occasion. Rise to it." I literally want to print that out and put it in my cubicle at work. Life can get so serious, heavy, and hum-drum as we get older. Movies like this serve as reminders that we don't have to lose that childlike wonder as we age. See more Fynn O 08/17/2024 So perfectly unique and unapologetically heart breaking. See more Alex M 07/11/2024 Edit: Sorry, I'm just not realizing this movie is G-rated. Please disregard (although, I'm not sure why it was playing on regular television). I'm sorry, I really try to not be mean about movies and to take them as entertainment but this was insufferable. I'm not even sure how long I lasted. I don't know the best way to describe it, but it's very obvious that this is a movie, and I found it impossible to get immersed. I wouldn't be surprised is one of the actors blurted out direction notes it's so forced. The way the characters behave is so inorganic, it's almost like this could be Not Another Whimsical Movie. It's like they're Doctor Seuss characters, but in a normal world, so it just doesn't work, and it's painful. See more Read all reviews
