What is it about Italian horror flicks revolving around dance that makes them soo damn entertaining?! I wish I had seen this decades ago, as it's now going up in top tier Fulci for me. A sleazy slasher flick with a great cast and his signature visuals... count me in!

This is a film I've always heard very middling things about, and while most of them turned out to be true, the solid cheesiness of the '80s era dancing stuff just wormed its way into my heart, much in the same way something as corny as Flashdance does. I mean, *why wouldn't* you want to follow a student/amateur sleuth around a dance academy to find out who is killing all the young folks?

For a Lucio Fulci movie, it's really dull. It may be Flashdance meets The New York Ripper, but it's not as good as that idea sounds. There is plenty of great (a bit too erotic for a dance academy if you ask me) dance scenes to some of the cheesiest music from a Lucio Fulci movie. That stuff is great, and it's hilarious and sexy. Makes me want to throw on some spandex, get my hair wet, and whip it around. But the big problem with the movie is its lack of violence and grit. That's something that makes Lucio Fulci movies special. New York Ripper and Don't Torture a Duckling are genre classics because of the extreme violence. In Murder Rock, every girl is killed by being knocked out and having a needle pressed into their heart. It sounds like a good idea on paper, but it doesn't make for the most exciting slasher. Maybe a few scenes where the killer is almost caught, but has to kill the eyewitness quickly to escape the crime scene would have been nice. The ending has a twist, but if you've seen other Fulci movies, it's kind of predictable. Even the shots in the movie don't seem to have the same flare he usually has in his other movies. Some of his trademarks show up, but for the most part it seems like he's going through the motions. And that's what really keeps this movie from being anything special. The novelty of a Flashdance slasher doesn't sustain it well enough.

The killer is obvious early on and the acting is laughable but the movie kept my attention. This is worth checking out.

A little confusing, a little too much dancing, and add a strange ice pick weapon thing, you get this movie. I wouldn't say it was incredibly bad, though, since the story does start to make a little sense. It's okay, but definitely not Fulci's best.

Ever wanted to a see an 80's giallo mixed with the movie Flashdance, directed by one of the godfathers of gore cinema? If not then you'll be well advised to pass this clunker right by. This is supposed to be some kind of murder mystery about someone killing students at a dance school, and there's barely any murder in this at all. The few murders in this are very cheesy looking, boring and virtually goreless. This was directed by one of the goriest directors ever Lucio Fulci and this was right after his major blood and guts period of film making.
I have a feeling he was trying to go back to his Lizard In A Woman's Skin, Don't Torture a duckling period of the early 70's where he had good character suspense drama's that were lite on blood, but this was just flat out boring.
The few good things about this whole movie were some of the beautiful dream like scenes that were shot just brilliantly, almost like Fulci was trying to rip off Dario Argento's Suspiria period, and the music was somewhat catchy for mid 80's dance synth pop.
There were alot of moments that were just like out of Flashdance or the movie Fame, where they will focus on a 5 minute dance sequence when this is supposed to be a murder mystery, Giallo film. It just felt like the there was way too much dancing and not enough murder or suspense or any kind of intelligence in the script writing at all. I also don't think there's anything scary or suspenseful about a killer who uses a very long pin to kill people with either.
This was kind of a turd but I'm still kinda glad I gave it a watch, because I'm a Fulci Completist.
