William Schwartz HanCinema What really makes these action sequences work is the well-developed sense of staging that goes with them. They all favor a rapid sequence approach of problems and solutions. Kevin L This was such a smart, well-crafted story line, with some fine performances in the lead roles. The twist(s) got me, and all was very good for me as a viewer. I felt so strongly for Lt. Choi, the mother with the missing daughter who held desperately to the possibility of her daughter being alive, and others who had suffered at the hands of this despicable subhuman murderer. Director Jung Byung-gil's great pacing and the tone he set worked so well for this genre. Indignation was as present for me as the smarmy, self-absorbed presence of Lee, and later than of 'J'. And I appreciated the point made about how the media and the cult of personality glamorize the confessed murderer Lee, with so many girls all frothy and in a fit over him. But then they jumped the shark with the last act of the movie, with the killer escaping (again!) in such a ludicrous manner. Then there's the way they made him into some like mutant who apparently felt little if any pain, could fall from a great height and walk away, and seemingly couldn't die. And tell me how a guy maybe 5'6" 145 lbs. could fight like Captain America w/ a brown belt. Somehow like 15 people couldn't grab him, 6-7 couldn't beat him in a fight, yet a pen takes him out. So still a very fine movie, but they had the ending when they played back the recording of Soo-yeon at the press conference. Editing is such a huge key to filmmaking. 3.8 stars Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/25/23 Full Review Gothxthot This movie had me hooked by the first 12 minutes. It is incredibly written. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A premise that may have been absurd, back when the movie first came out. But one that is all too real in the modern social media landscape. Cathartic is the right word for this movie. You see these characters deal with the loss of loved ones and the denial of justice. You see the regret in everyone's eye. If only they had done things differently. So it's cathartic to finally see everyone fight for justice for their loved ones. And when the ending finally hits you? It's bittersweet. The bad guy is caught but the ones lost to him are gone forever. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Late R An absolutely outrageous plot with little realism, sometimes confusing tones, and too many characters, few of which who are truly likeable and end up detracting from central mystery. Nevertheless, it has its moments with its somewhat silly, but fast-paced and exciting action sequences, as well as a finale that is interesting and cathartic despite being completely unbelievable. In short, I think there was a much better film in there, one that was more succinct, better written and more focused. As a time-waster, however, ‘Confession of Murder' is serviceable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/20 Full Review Audience Member Jung Byung-Gil's (THE VILLAINESS) breakout film is brimming with so many great ideas and themes that it is bursting to the point of silliness. The creative editing and excellent camera work are on point, and the film never sits still enough to be boring, but even after the final twists and turns, you'll wish a few ideas stayed on the cutting room floor. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyable, but stupid and with Sifi worthy effects. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
