Justin T This is not a scary film. It is a gory film. One really brutal scene made me wince so much. It is a little difficult to stomach in places. It didn't really make me jump in any places. I didn't care about the story and the duck noises were really distracting from the seriousness. It was a bit predictable. Nice gore and not the worst movie in the world but still lacking comedy or deep fear or anything other than gore. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/14/24 Full Review Brad P Few directors in the horror genre are as intrinsically intertwined with splatter as Lucio Fulci, the Italian "Godfather of Gore". Any viewer should know most of his films are gonna be a rough ride, and usually they are right from the get-go. But, oof, The New York Ripper (1982) is a toughie. Did Fulci have a hard-on for sadistically brutalizing women? Because this is unquestionably the most misogynistic slasher I have seen. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Jonathan The New York Ripper wasn't scary but it's very disgusting sick and perverted gore fest I like it but not for violent scene just for Lucio Fulci's work. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review SpontaneousWeasel Inspired cinematography and a decent cast elevate the basic slasher material above its low budget. Sure the style of direction and editing show their age but it's clearly made with love for the genre. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/22 Full Review kevin c Lucio Fulci directs this story of a serial killer who is brutally murdering beautiful young women in the city that never sleeps. A police detective on the case is pursuing him, but is being taunted by the killer for not being able to capture him. I really like this mix of crime movie with elements of sex and horror which boasts some pretty gruesome scenes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The premise of this slasher film involves a murderer that torments the police and the prime investigator of the case with calls interspersed with quacking. The descriptions I've seen describe it as the killer speaking with "a duck voice". This is an inadequate description as there is no Donald Duck like speaking, just silly quacking. Lucio Fulci's trademark over-the-top gore kept me watching, but it isn't one of his better films. To be fair, it's not the worst either. I would recommend Zombie or The Gates of Hell over this one.
