Audience Member Very slow...and dumb..and seemed very out-dated like a movie out the the 80's... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Jason C kinda stupid. i liked lydia's character though Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/15 Full Review Audience Member Cool Flick 9/10 Author: kevthicklin from So. California I watched the movie Nocturna (2015) last night and I was pleasantly surprised. Two vampire families fighting for the supremacy of New Orleans. Each having their own way of survival and both being around for centuries. The plot was easy to follow. Wow! A horror film with a plot. The camera work was good. Most scenes were at night, but you could clearly see every detail. One detail in particular, the children being held captive in their little cages. The film's greatest strength was it made me think the two main characters, Harry and Lydia, were real people who just happen to devour blood for survival. I like how it ended with a sacrifice and the possibility of a new love connection with Harry's partner Cody. I can easily see the sequel in this ending. I give this movie great marks because it was different from all of the other ones in this genre. Good Show! Well written! KT from SC Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review jesse o It's a good thing that I rented this movie for free, Redbox gave me a free code for a rental, because this movie is just absolutely awful. The concept, however, is actually fairly interesting. Two vampire families feuding while the cops sort of sit back and let them do their own thing is interesting in the sense that you can actually play with that and seeing how far back the cops have been paid to let the vampires sort of rule over their own, but they don't really focus on that. I don't really even know what the focus is supposed to be on honestly. Firstly it's this detective having this partner forced on him and how this idealist partner wishes to get rid of the vampires, one family has been taking children to feed on, then after the two detectives start to work for the lead vampire family, ie: not the villains, the young and idealist detective wants no part of it and he decides to leave, leaving the experienced detective off on his own to deal with the feud between these two families and how to get rid of the Molderos, the villains. Inexplicably and unnecessarily, they inject a romantic subplot in there, to the point that you forget there was even a second detective in the first place, he just disappears. He's introduced, and you assume he's the lead actor, but then he leaves and he isn't seen again until the end of the film when he helps his partner kill the Molderos. It's not that this doesn't make sense, it does within the context, it's just so hastily put together. There's no real flow, rhyme or reason to anything that's happening here. They just do stuff just because. I wouldn't even call bother to call this a horror movie. The only thing that's remotely horrific about this is how awful it is. Oh and the fact that it's got vampires in it. Outside of Twilight, I don't think I can think of a movie that made lamer usage of the vampire mythos than this movie. They honestly had a good idea in place, I like the aspect of the two feuding families and the detectives that are stuck between them trying to control the two. I just think the film sort of misses the chance to tell an interesting story. Though, honestly, I'm not sure if the issues I have are sort of exacerbated by the low budget. The acting is just absolutely dreadful, from all around. Just fucking terrible. The only good actor in the entire film is Johnathon Schaech and he's stuck doing an accent that he is simply no good at, so that's another performance that fails to deliver. Not that it would've if his character didn't have the accent, but it would've been slightly better. Actually there's this scene with one old man, the one in the wheelchair, and I thought that, for all intents and purposes, the old man did a good job in his one scene. It lasts like three minutes, but he's good for those three minutes. Then there's the action scenes during the climax. Ooooh boy, now this one is definitely held back by the low-budget, but these fight scenes were just absolutely terrible. They make any DTV 90s low-budget action film look like The Raid. It's just awful. The look of the film is nothing special, but it's not as noticeable as the other flaws. I honestly don't have any fucking idea why I rented this movie. I have another free rental, so it's not like I needed another one, I guess that's what greed gets you. Two free movies and you end up spending one of those credits on a terrible movie. Can you imagine how pissed I would've been if I had actually paid for this? I can't actually wrap my head around that one. Still, there's no reason whatsoever that anyone should ever watch this. Not even if you're related to the cast and crew of this film. No reason. None. Nope. Never. Please don't watch this, Unfriended is also on Redbox, that's a good horror movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm a big fan of New Orleans and Louisiana Vampire shows period ,such as True Blood, The Originals(most underrated supernatural show on TV) and now this movie which was filmed in Baton Rouge and St. Lawrenceville. Hey, it is low budget and it's for only fans of True Blood or The Originals. No one else allowed!,lol Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
