Audience Member Barbara Wong guides the wiever swiftly through ten post-handover years and places wealthy CEO woman Gigi Leung in the midst of seemingly every single disaster that struck Hong Kong during this period. As the narrative goes from downright depressing to perky and upbeat, Wonder Women also loses most of it's strength. The director loses several opportunities to milk something more emotionally worthwile out of the story. Wong's attempt to demonstrate HK residents ability to survive at any cost seems misguided and unconvincing, and for a local movie Wonder Women also feels strangely disconnected to it's geographical location. Struggling women of Hong Kong deserve a better chronicler than Wong. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Ok so someone made me watch this coz of one 5 second scene, and apart from the main ladies being kinda cute, but not necessarily 'wonderful' there wasn't too much great about this movie.. a nice epilogue of hk in the late 90's and early 00's.. which was in itself kinda depressing since they focussed on all the bad things... in the end tho, a pretty avg movie, and the ending is pretty predictable and it all just kind of happens all at once... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member amazing performance by GiGi~ enjoyed it very much! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie is so boring!!! and Gigi's acting is just so crap!!! and what does this movie prove?? females are better than males at any situations? think we already worked that out!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a movie celebrating the 10th anniversary of reunion from HK, maybe it was too much happened but it's many HK people's real story between these 10 years... Gigi Leung did very well in this movie! But I don't like a part of Fiona Sit... Not her problem.... Just because the naive role... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Ridiculously tragic, ridiculously kind ppl, ridiculously useless losers, ridiculously coincidental. Ridiculous, but ridiculously touching. More cons: Too much propaganda for HK citizens and women. Typical HK gangsters hitting women / grabbng purses scenes and a good guy comes into the picture to help out ETC. scenes from the 40's, 60's, 80's. The focus is slightly bad taste. Everyone has to die b/c they lost money. She was distraughted by the loss of everything around her, but she immediately lost interested in dying after she learnt that she earned money. WTF? Pros: Depressing and tragic, so it makes the movie slightly artistic. Watch it when you are self-pitying yourself. Gigi's acting did touched my heart. It also engages you by the series of unfortunate / fortunate events in HK over the past 10 years. Definitely not a movie honoring successful women and a movie for the next generation of Avril Lavignes to watch. Thanks Victor for sending me the CD! Though I criticized so much, I enjoyed watching it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
