Apple S Good documentary if you want to hear the Palestinian side of the story, but worth bearing in mind that this is a one sided film. The Israeli side of the argument isn't given much airtime and many of the claims are unverified and anecdotal. But still, it's good to understand things from the Palestinian point of view, and there certainly seems to be many injustices that they have to endure. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Audience Member The film begins with John Pilger standing in front of the camera saying "I support the Palestinian people, and I'll show you why." So, there... The short introduction serves as a reminder of the perspective throughout. But I am (as from what I've read and seen about the conflict so far) also supportive of the arabs and facts remain facts. The using of interviews with both Palestinians and Israelites validates the documentary in a way, and some of the interviews are simply awe-inspiring as the Israeli father who lost his child to a suicide bomber and is still capable of looking at the bigger problem and the perspective of the bomber. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent piece of balanced, un-apologetic investigative journalism. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Pilger's coup in this film is to find Israeli dissenters who are willing to be open about their policy towards Palestine - just as the US use 9/11 as a lever to remap the middle east, the Israeli state has been using the Holocaust as a lever to suppress and exterminate the Palestinians since the late 40s, automatically accusing any critics of being anti-Semites (much as the US accuses any critics of being anti-patriotic or 'cowards'). As this argument loses credence with each new assault on the Palestinians, the other favourite US excuse for domination is wheeled out - national security, same as Bush & Blair did when there was no links found between Saddam and 9/11. To its credit, this film doesn't shy away from the only logical conclusion - there won't be peace in Israel until the Israelis withdraw from the territories occupied in the 6 day war and give the Palestinians full sovereignty over the west bank and Gaza (and even this will be seen as a half measure by many Islamists, who won't be pacified unless Israel ceases to exist in the Peninsula altogether). The film certainly isn't a barrel of laughs, but if you're interested in this sort of thing then it's worth seeing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Pilger, my hero, tackling the biggest issues, the biggess taboos that nobody else touches. And yes, Palestine is STILL the issue. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member If you want to know what's REALLY going on in the Middle East then watch this film. Highly informative, accessible and anger-inducing.
