BRizz 2 Pastor Thorne: Lust of the Flesh (2023) & Pastor Thorne 2: Sins of the Father (2024) Both of these films are currently streaming on Tubi, and honestly, I’m grouping them together because neither one deserves a full review on its own. The first film, Lust of the Flesh, kicks off with a pastor already entangled in an affair outside of his marriage—and it only goes downhill from there. The story is a complete mess, the script feels like it was thrown together overnight, and the direction makes everything worse. I don’t mind low-budget productions—sometimes a small budget forces creativity—but here, the poor execution overshadows everything. The constant zoom-ins on people’s heads and faces became distracting and almost claustrophobic. I wanted to see some scope, some distance, anything other than extreme close-ups. The acting across the board is atrocious, with very little chemistry or believability between the cast. The only character I could remotely connect with was the pastor’s wife, and even then, it was mostly because she seemed like the only actor genuinely trying to bring something real to the role. The sequel, Sins of the Father, unfortunately doubles down on the same mistakes. The writing is just as bad, the directing even more questionable, and the blood effects near the end are laughably fake. The bright red liquid looked like someone mixed corn syrup with food coloring—blood simply doesn’t look like that. At least try to make it believable. I’ll give credit to the mother character returning, and again, to the wife for being the only somewhat convincing presence in this disaster of a franchise. But even she deserves better than this. Both of these films are poorly written, poorly acted, and poorly directed. They’re not scary, not dramatic, not even “so bad it’s good”—just bad. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend either of them.
