Leslie Felperin Guardian It plays out on various levels of meta, like a movie that wants you to think it's secretly deep and resonant beneath all the pulpy trappings; but there isn't actually all that much really there. Rated: 2/5 Apr 29, 2020 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...engaging horror that has a real nous about it... Rated: 4/5 Mar 21, 2021 Full Review Nick Hasted The Arts Desk This is a horror movie about actors in which neither frights nor acting amount to much. Rated: 3/5 May 19, 2020 Full Review Tom Beasley Flickering Myth Reborn simply fails to land any of its punches and limps to a conclusion without ever flexing its muscles beyond a generic selection of scare sequences. Rated: 2/5 May 11, 2020 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall With the tone of a vintage horror classic, this bonkers movie is a gleeful melee of grisly violence and sudden emotion. Rated: 3.5/5 May 6, 2020 Full Review Sam Inglis HeyUGuys Derivative and dull, just rewatch Carrie, or catch Barbara Crampton in the excellent Sun Choke instead. Audience Member Despite this films potential in drama and horror, the end result is what you would expect to see on the horror channel at 9am. The highs of this film consisted of the few imaginative and creative death scenes, but everything else is boringly predictable. Kayleigh Gilbert deserves credit for trying to uplift her role, but she clearly didnt get much to work with. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member MST3K/Rifftracks material Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member It was cool seeing actors I haven't seen in a while, like Chaz Bono and Radon Chong. Some of the other actors were ok, some were ridiculous. The writing didn't make a lot of sense. I'd say this crosses the line from ‘bad' to ‘comically bad', so it's still pretty enjoyable to watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't know if this is a horror movie or the back story for a new superhero/villain. It's another movie with an interesting premise, that just does not quite pull it off and leaves you disappointed. It's ironic that one of the leads is a woman who is a washed up actress who can't act anymore. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member There are some undeniable influences at work in Reborn; Mary Shelley's Frankenstein's and Stephen King's Carrie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The film really does have a classic horror feel, the almost supernatural fantasy-inspired atmosphere surrounding such a paranormal tale is instantly intriguing. And there is very clear references to Stephen King's stuff, the tragic nature of Tess' origin story and ongoing troubled existence is reminiscent of both Carrie and Charlie oozes from this character. The whole telekinesis aspect aside, "Reborn" really does play like a video rental from the past. The characters are rich and engaging. I would have loved a bit more time spent on exploring the dynamic between the story's two main characters, but if more kills supplants stronger story arc then I'm cool with it. "Reborn" does have some flaws, for one it moves too fast for any real connection to develop between audience and character. The second I will get to in a moment. The cast is great. There are recognizable genre actors attached to this one and they all deliver. Especially newcomer Gilbert. Her and Crampton's time on screen is a sweet spot for this movie. The special effects in "Reborn" are mixed, both in technique and quality. Usually a paranormal film has some leeway when using CGI. And for the most part this film has some shinning moments, blending CGI effects to enhance more practical stunts. However some moments come off cheaper than what this film deserves. That being said, there is some quality kills in "Reborn", and one really awesome jump scare, brutal kill that got me- got me good! Definitely check it out.
