What to Know

Critics Consensus

[REC] 3 Genesis discards the handheld POV of its predecessors and loses the franchise's fresh perspective in the bargain, upping the gags and gore to the detriment of the chills that audiences crave.

Perri Nemiroff Shockya.com Perhaps Paco Plaza's fictional virus finally got to him because the fact that he thinks he can do away with found footage and horror in the third installment is downright bizarre. Rated: 2/5 Sep 8, 2012 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post Plaza throws in more than enough ludicrous touches of his own to grab viewers by their arteries and never let go. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 7, 2012 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times With slapstick smothering the scares, "[REC 3]" is further marred by a plot in which the muted Catholicism of its antecedents is turned up to full blast. Rated: 2/5 Sep 6, 2012 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Lulls you into expecting a redundant experience in its opening minutes, only to entirely circumvent expectations while being as satisfying as its predecessors. Rated: 4/5 Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review It’s exceedingly gory, more so than its predecessors, and its lack of technical ingenuity and half-hearted use of the “found footage” device somehow makes it less interesting. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 3, 2022 Full Review Rita Cannon Battleship Pretension This movie doesn't negotiate its shifts in tone quite as nimbly as Wright's did, but its blend of absurd humor, bloody thrills, and genuine human emotion took me by surprise, and I mean that in a good way. Roiy A La verdad Está secuela Está Bastante por debajo de las Primeras Llega a Ser más o menos Buena Pero Quitar ese Formato que Tenian las Películas Anteriores Jode Bastante la Experiencia y la Hace sentir un Poco Genérica Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Steven Y It was almost a relief to depart from the found-footage format 3 films into the franchise, but you ultimately realise that without it, it's a lot easier to recognise the B-movie qualities. It's another frustrating horror film that misses the mark (in terms of being scary or tense) and instead becomes a lampoon of the genre. I laughed out loud many, many times, and most of them felt like deliberate comedic choices by the director. The protagonists make downright dumb decisions and deserve to die for much of the film, and the set pieces are somewhat hilarious. It's very watchable and I quite enjoyed it, but it's not good. At all. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Lucas t I like this film because of how bad ass it Is and how gory the kills are. 7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/29/24 Full Review Euler N More like a spin-off from the other two movies. It doesn't add anything to the story, the deaths are too fast and sometimes emotionless, the groom seems too snob to the a hero, the found-footage style is shown only in the first 30min. While the other movies are very creative, this one looks like a common zombie film. But it's not bad. The pace is good, it's watchable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/20/24 Full Review Mauricio A estaba encantado con las 2 primeras entregas, pero fue tan desilucionante esta tercera entrega buscando solo la escena cliché y de final de accion cada 3 minutos, ahora ire a ver la 4 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Benjamin F I don't understand, the directors throw away what makes the film saga different and special with touches of "humor" that makes me think I'm watching a parody created by the same directors of the first film, in addition to the stupidity of adding a soundtrack that takes away the essence and terror of his previous films. Although the graphic quality increased due to the participation of more companies, the quality of the story decreased too much, to make my point understood I have an example, it is like Tarantino's first film, few resources and money but great story while this film is what On the contrary, bigger budget than his previous ones but lower quality in the script talking about the first few minutes of the wedding that uses the found photo format is really good but that is until the camera and the quality break at the same time Te quiero John Esponja, gracias por salvar la película Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
