      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

[REC] 3 Genesis discards the handheld POV of its predecessors and loses the franchise's fresh perspective in the bargain, upping the gags and gore to the detriment of the chills that audiences crave.

Perri Nemiroff Shockya.com Perhaps Paco Plaza's fictional virus finally got to him because the fact that he thinks he can do away with found footage and horror in the third installment is downright bizarre. Rated: 2/5 Sep 8, 2012 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post Plaza throws in more than enough ludicrous touches of his own to grab viewers by their arteries and never let go. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 7, 2012 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times With slapstick smothering the scares, "[REC 3]" is further marred by a plot in which the muted Catholicism of its antecedents is turned up to full blast. Rated: 2/5 Sep 6, 2012 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Lulls you into expecting a redundant experience in its opening minutes, only to entirely circumvent expectations while being as satisfying as its predecessors. Rated: 4/5 Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review It’s exceedingly gory, more so than its predecessors, and its lack of technical ingenuity and half-hearted use of the “found footage” device somehow makes it less interesting. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 3, 2022 Full Review Rita Cannon Battleship Pretension This movie doesn't negotiate its shifts in tone quite as nimbly as Wright's did, but its blend of absurd humor, bloody thrills, and genuine human emotion took me by surprise, and I mean that in a good way. I don't understand, the directors throw away what makes the film saga different and special with touches of "humor" that makes me think I'm watching a parody created by the same directors of the first film, in addition to the stupidity of adding a soundtrack that takes away the essence and terror of his previous films. Although the graphic quality increased due to the participation of more companies, the quality of the story decreased too much, to make my point understood I have an example, it is like Tarantino's first film, few resources and money but great story while this film is what On the contrary, bigger budget than his previous ones but lower quality in the script talking about the first few minutes of the wedding that uses the found photo format is really good but that is until the camera and the quality break at the same time Te quiero John Esponja, gracias por salvar la película Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review SteveRondon Hasta la tercera entrega de esta saga [Rec] fueron completamente entretenidas que te hacen querer verlo todo , sin duda esta tercera entrega es buena solo que el cambio de cámara encontrada no fue un tanto de mi agrado pero igualmente entretenida y aún con el toque de las 2 primeras Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review matthias s "REC 3: Genesis" is an entertaining horror-comedy that is a departure from the found-footage style of the first two films in the series. While it may not be as terrifying as its predecessors, it offers a fresh take on the franchise with its humorous approach. The film boasts impressive production design and special effects that are on par with its predecessors. The cinematography is also noteworthy, with dynamic camera angles and intense action sequences that keep the audience engaged. The lead actors, Leticia Dolera and Diego Martín, deliver charismatic performances and have great chemistry as the bride and groom fighting their way through a zombie outbreak. The supporting cast also shines, particularly Ismael Martínez as the hilariously inept best man. While some fans of the series may be disappointed by the departure from the found-footage style and the lack of scares, "REC 3: Genesis" stands on its own as a fun and entertaining horror-comedy with plenty of blood and laughs. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review Kau M the "REC" saga is marked by being found footage, and when they changed that, they made the film completely generic, unlike the first two films that were horror masterpieces, this film tried a failed romance in the midst of zombies and idiocy and BAD actuations. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/23 Full Review Vladan A It would be less but the bride made it worth watching. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
