Nick Schager Paste Magazine Amenbar's film can barely lay out its faith-vs.-science-vs.-reason conflicts, much less employ them for critical purposes. Rated: 2.5/10 Feb 11, 2016 Full Review C. Molly Smith Entertainment Weekly Hawke anchors the film as a cop who descends deeper and deeper into the monstrous, violent world he's uncovered. Rated: B- Feb 10, 2016 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture A disposable genre movie that cannot scare, convince, or enlighten. Feb 6, 2016 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Regression doesn’t progress in any compelling fashion and it’s pretty forgettable. In fact, the experience in a word was, cheap. Rated: C- Aug 2, 2024 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a pervasively inept and thoroughly endless piece of work... Rated: 0/4 Apr 14, 2022 Full Review Mikel Zorrilla Espinof 'Regression' is a bad movie that provides nothing more than an annoying routine... with actors who never manage to transmit anything to us. G K The only way that this movie would be redeemable is if at the end, the girl was lying, and it was all for attention. Then it would show the truth about satanic panic and how ridiculous it is. These allegations ruin many people’s lives. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Patrick R It's a good movie... okay, it's not among Amenábar's best, but the strong message it conveys is something very precious, as it's totally neglected, and it has to do with anthropology, psychology, sociology, and cultural processes... ...namely, no one ever stops to think that... our convictions, even the smallest and most 'innocent' of everyday life, beliefs, visions of reality, etc... are solely and exclusively the result of a continuous process of signification, which occurs from the aggregation and redundancy of some information, rather than others. ...Excellent lesson of post-graduation, universally recognized by experts in the aforementioned areas, which we have the opportunity to learn with a good film by a good director, and good actors... ...I felt a bit of a lack of a more marked visualization regarding the great revelation that the protagonist has towards the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review mark g I thought this was a pretty decent film and more than a lot creepy. The dark and cold surroundings help to paint a macabre movie. Hawke is very invested here. I think people are being crazy harsh here, this is a fairly intelligent psychological drama. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Gwyneth E I liked the concept but it was very confusing and written poorly. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/24 Full Review Audience Member Terrible movie, horribly written and exceptionally ill executed. The two leads are characters you wanna punch in the face Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review steve d The whole thing just comes off as silly.
