Audience Member There is something worse than DDT being used on the forest and it kills quickly. But Gene will save the forest, arrest the bad guys, and get the girl. Autry ,once again, has an able sidekick who is a very fine actor. The song "It's My Lazy Day" is inspiring. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Gene Autry versus the Environmentalists! Gene leads some Forest Service agents in spraying DDT to stop a bug infestation that will wipe out the forest. Greedy lumbermen want to stop the spraying so they'll get to take all of the infested lumber, instead of just portions of it if the forest stays healthy. They spread a rumor that DDT will kill livestock and woodland animals. But don't worry, cause Gene knows that the doctors and scientists say it's safe! Funny to hear the ranchers and civilians asking if their livestock or fish in the streams will be poisoned, Gene advocating the safety of it. In other scenes, Gene argues with one of his spraying pilots who crashed a plane because he was drinking too hard. After the pilot sobers up, he tries to resign, but Gene enables his alcoholism by saying he should stay on the job and "we'll fight this thing!" Don't miss the good guy's kamikaze attack during the climax! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member 60/100. Certainly one of the more interesting Gene Autry westerns, good plot, the bad guys are destroying all the timber in a government forest preserve. Autry does what he can to prevent it, but the accuse him of poisoning cattle. Longer than most entries at 72 minutes, it has some good aerial scenes and some great singing as well. It's also unusual for it's day as it carries an enviromental message on protecting forests and resources from depletion. The staging and the acting are done well. If your a non- singing Autry fan you'll enjoy this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
