This is quite literally one of the best movies ever made. I am quite suprised that others who have reviewed it on this site don't agree. This film describes who it is that Lupin is and even his idea of what a real evil person is. There are so many themes and elements that combine to show us this too. I personally watched the dub with Tony Oliver and most of the modern-day Lupin cast, so I will admit I can't speak for the other dubs and such. I can say that I would only recommend that people who have watched a lot of prior Lupin III material watch this. As for people who just got into Lupin, try to wait a little bit before you watch it because admittedly it is a lot to digest.

A bombastic little film with an off beat plot that's diminished by unlikable characters and a story that is just too ludicrous--and at times outright stupid--to invest any lasting interest in.

If there is an anime that is famous and becomes an instant hit, that anime would have a golden ticket to be made into a film. Lupin the Third is instantly a great anime and deserves an animated film after a horrific live action adaptation that many few have ever heard or experienced watching. Not only is this film good as part of the Lupin franchise, but is a very great entry and an instant classic toward fans of the series.
This film presents everything that is great about Lupin and does this extremely well to keep you entertained. You have the thrills, the excitement, betrayals, and eroticism that completely defines the greatness of Lupin the 3rd. Watching these car chases, gun actions, and watching Lupin outsmart Zenigata's scheme brings in a great amount of entertainment that allows fans to have a great time. Treasures are an important factor in Lupin and this film describes why by introducing a treasure that stands as an important factor to the plot. Now what I really liked about the plot was presenting this vicious villain that stands as a threat to Lupin and his crew and having this huge mystery behind him that will remain unknown until the final battle; unexpected and very well told.
The voice acting was very well casted. Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko, Goemon, and Zenigata are all portrayed by the same voice actors of the anime series. They've acted like the characters as they would in the anime and is always great. The voice actor behind Mamo was surprisingly good, especially for an actor with no voice acting experience.
The art style is quite diverse from any of the art seen in any of Lupin series, presenting something different from the 1st and 2nd season of Lupin, the Miyazaki film, and recent artwork of Lupin. The art work is very different, but actually worked quite well for this film; the artwork fits with the world of Lupin and was pretty nice. It was never at a point to feel that the art looked cheap and I actually liked the drawings. Fans will definitely find no problem with the art, finding no problem with anything and actually coming to like the drawings.
Over 30 years have passed by and this film is still enjoyable up till this day. If you are a fan of Lupin the Third and want to watch a good Lupin film, definitely for you. If you are here to watch Lupin the Third for the first time, this film is a great way to start up with the series and to enjoy the excitement and entertainment that the series is known for.

Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo was the first theatrical Lupin the third movie based off of the classic Monkey Punch comics books and many die-hard fans live and die by the belief that it's the most faithful. Working for fifteen months, the 1,315 strong Lupin staff managed to produce a thoroughly enjoyable and very adult anime film.
The first thing to address is the animation. Back in 1978 animators didn't have the technology film-makers have readily available now. So as a result this film is entirely hand-drawn, and it looks absolutely amazing. The look of each character is very stylish and individual. And environments are very well detailed and textured.
The entire gang returns here but unfortunately, if you haven't seen any other Lupin this won't mean much to you. Personally what I love about the Lupin series are the characters, and luckily they are all perfectly portrayed here, right down to Jigen's unmatched suaveness.
I cannot really write too much about the story without giving away some of the big twists so all I say is that we follow Lupin, Goemon and Jigen as they attempt to uncover a mysterious man who has turned Fujiko into his sidekick with promises of eternal life. Oh, and Zenigata's hot on their tail of course.
This film has great style, characters, animation and amazing action sequences (although not up to COC's standards). So what're the negatives here? Well, the story does get a bit convoluted near the end, itâ(TM)s just way too sci-fi for Lupin. The story can also be a little slow in places but luckily these parts are few and far between. Also, and I know it's a bit annoying as so many others have said this but it's just not as good as Castle of Cagliostro, the charm is just not quite right. This wouldnâ(TM)t be a problem apart from the fact that Miyazakiâ(TM)s interpretation is so good that it just makes any other attempts at Lupin seem poor in comparison. I'd give this a 78%, so as a star rating I'll round it up to 4 stars.

Jo'a, selvfølgelig er musikken råkul, men utenom det og en ganske stilig åpningsscene er denne filmen noe skikkelig rubbish. Det man greier å skjønne av det kronglete plottet er uansett utrolig tåpelig.
Det er fremdeles en halv million Lupin III-filmer jeg ikke har sett, men sjansen for at de er så dårlige som The Secret of Mamo må vel være veldig små? Oh please God...
