Parlare di don Bosco non è cosa facile. Questo prete, semplice e poliedrico nello stesso tempo, merita uno studio particolareggiato. Lascio al lettore, la voglia di approfondire, io mi limito soltanto ad una introduzione autografa,che ha lo scopo di incuriosire lo spettatore e nello stesso tempo consentirgli di impossessarsi al meglio del lavoro di Lodovico Gasparini. A questa introduzione segue una breve sinossi. La frase di lancio l'ho titolata "Un concreto sognatore". Ebbene sì; don Bosco di sogni ne ha fatti tantissimi, premonitori e veritieri, tutti. Ne riporto tre, che reputo significativi per il mio scopo, ma prima di farlo vi invito, se la cosa vi aggrada a far ricerca su tale aspetto della vita del Santo; aspetto interessante tanto per il credente quanto per l'incredulo. Anzi l'incredulo, se vero studioso dei sogni, trova abbondante materiale da cui attingere per i suoi studi.
«Non con le percosse...»
Alla tenera età di 9 anni Don Bosco ha il suo primo sogno. In esso Gesù e la Vergine gli preannunziano, sebbene in forma velata, la sua futura missione. Gli parve di essere vicino a casa sua, in mezzo a una moltitudine di ragazzi che si divertivano in un grande cortile. Alcuni ridevano, altri giocavano, non pochi bestemmiavano. Al sentire le bestemmie, si slanciò in mezzo a loro, usando pugni e parole per farli tacere. Ed ecco apparirgli un Uomo venerando, nobilmente vestito, con una faccia così luminosa che Giovannino non riusciva a rimirarla. Lo chiamò per nome e gli ordinò di mettersi a capo di quei ragazzi aggiungendo:
- Non con le percosse, ma con la mansuetudine e la carità dovrai guadagnare questi tuoi amici. Fa dunque loro subito un'istruzione sulla bruttezza del peccato e sulla preziosità della virtù.
Giovannino, tutto confuso, risponde che è un povero ragazzo ignorante, incapace di fare questo.
In quel momento risa, schiamazzi e bestemmie cessarono e i ra gazzi si raccolsero intorno a colui che parlava. Ma cediamo la parola a Don Bosco stesso: «Quasi senza sapere che cosa dicessi, gli domandai:
- Chi siete voi che mi comandate cose impossibili?
- Appunto perché è cosa che ti sembra impossibile, devi renderla possibile con l'ubbidienza e con l'acquisto della scienza.
- Dove, come acquisterò la scienza?
- Io ti darò la Maestra. Sotto la sua guida potrai divenire sapiente; senza di essa ogni sapienza diventa stoltezza.
- Ma chi siete voi che parlate così?
- Io sono il figlio di Colei che tua Madre t'insegnò a salutare tre volte al giorno.
- Mia madre mi dice di non associarmi, senza suo permesso, con chi non conosco. Perciò ditemi il vostro nome.
- Il mio nome domandalo a mia Madre.
In quel momento vidi accanto a lui una Donna di aspetto maestoso, vestita di un manto che splendeva da tutte le parti, come se ogni punto fosse una fulgidissima stella. Vedendomi sempre più confuso, mi accennò di avvicinarmi a lei, mi prese con bontà per mano e mi disse:
- Guarda.
Guardai e mi accorsi che quei ragazzi erano tutti scomparsi. Al loro posto c'era una moltitudine di capretti, cani, gatti, orsi e parecchi altri animali.
- Ecco il tuo campo - ripigliò quella Signora -, ecco dove devi lavorare. Renditi umile, forte e robusto, e ciò che ora vedrai succedere di questi animali tu dovrai farlo per i miei figli.
Volsi allora lo sguardo ed ecco che al posto di animali feroci, comparvero altrettanti agnelli mansueti, che saltellavano, corre vano, belavano come per far festa a quell'Uomo e a quella Signora.
Allora, sempre nel sogno, mi misi a piangere e pregai quella Signora che parlasse in modo da poter capire. Ella mi pose la mano sul capo dicendomi:
- A suo tempo, tutto comprenderai.
A questo punto un rumore mi svegliò e io rimasi sbalordito. Mi sembrava di aver le mani che mi facessero male per i pugni che avevo dato e che la faccia mi bruciasse per gli schiaffi ricevuti»

Nuovi interventi dall'alto
Il sogno dei 9 anni si rinnovò per lo spazio di circa 18 anni. Il quadro generale era lo stesso, ma ogni volta era accompagnato da scene accessorie sempre nuove, che adombravano lo svolgersi della sua futura missione di apostolo dei giovani. In questi interventi dall'alto si trova la spiegazione della sua calma imperturbabile e della sicurezza di riuscire in ogni sua impresa.
All'età di 16 anni vide venire a sé una maestosa Signora che conduceva un numerosissimo gregge e che, avvicinandosi a lui e chiamandolo per nome, gli disse:
- Ecco, Giovannino, tutto questo gregge lo affido alle tue cure.
- Come farò - obiettò Giovanni - ad aver cura di tante pecore e di tanti agnelli?
- Non temere - rispose la Signora -, io ti assisterò.
All'età di 19 anni gli apparve di nuovo il personaggio del primo sogno, vestito di bianco, raggiante di luce splendidissima, in atto di guidare una turba innumerevole di ragazzi. Rivoltosi a Giovanni, gli disse:
- Vieni qua, mettiti alla testa di questi ragazzi e guidali tu stesso.
- Ma io non sono capace di guidare tante migliaia di ragazzi.
Ma il personaggio gli ripeté un comando imperioso, sicché Giovanni si pose a capo di quella turba giovanile. Nello stesso anno, ancora chierico, si vide in sogno già prete in cotta e stola a lavorare in una sartoria; però non cuciva solo cose nuove, ma rappezzava anche abiti logori. Chiaro simbolo che era chiamato a educare non solo giovani buoni e santi come Domenico Savio, ma anche a condurre sulla buona strada giovani già traviati. Aveva raggiunto l'età di 22 anni, quando in un nuovo sogno gli fu indicato anche il campo della sua futura missione. Vide la valle sottostante alla cascina del Sussambrino, dove trascorreva le vacanze, convertirsi in una grande città, nelle cui strade e piazze correvano turbe di ragazzi schiamazzando, giocando e bestemmiando. Di carattere pronto e vivace, Giovanni si avvicinò a quei ragazzi, sgridandoli e minacciandoli. Viste vane le sue minacce, prese a percuoterli; ma quelli reagirono e lo tempestarono di pugni. Mortificato e pesto, si diede alla fuga. Ma ecco venirgli incontro un personaggio che gli intimò di fermarsi e di ritornare tra quei monelli. Quindi lo presentò a una nobilissima Signora e disse:
- Questa è mia madre: consigliati con lei.
La Signora, fissandolo con uno sguardo pieno di bontà, gli disse:
- Se vuoi guadagnarti questi monelli, non devi affrontarli con le percosse, ma prenderli con la dolcezza e la persuasione. In quel momento, come nel primo sogno, vide i giovani trasformarsi in agnelli, ai quali egli prese a fare da pastore per ordine di quella Signora.

Grandi funerali a Corte
Una notte, verso la fine del novembre 1854, Don Bosco sognò di trovarsi nel cortile circondato da preti e da chierici, quando comparve un valletto di corte con la sua rossa uniforme che, giunto alla sua presenza, gridò:
- Grande notizia!
- Quale? - chiese Don Bosco.
- Annunzia: gran funerale a Corte!
Don Bosco, dolorosamente sorpreso, voleva chiedergli spiegazioni, ma il valletto ripetendo:
- Gran funerale a Corte! - scomparve.
Appena destatosi, preparò subito una lettera per il Re Vittorio Emanuele II, nella quale gli esponeva il sogno fatto. A pranzo comparve tra i giovani con un fascio di lettere.
- Stamane - disse - ho scritto tre lettere a grandi personaggi: al Papa, al Re, al boia.
Al sentire accoppiati questi tre nomi, i giovani scoppiarono in una risata. Il nome del boia non fece loro meraviglia perché conoscevano le relazioni di Don Bosco con le autorità carcerarie. In quanto al Papa, sapevano che era con lui in relazione epistolare. Ciò che aguzzava la loro curiosità era il sapere che cosa avesse scritto al Re. Don Bosco raccontò loro il sogno e concluse:
- Questo sogno mi ha fatto star male tutta la notte.
Cinque giorni dopo, il sogno si rinnovò. Don Bosco è seduto a tavolino quando entra con impeto il valletto in rossa livrea e grida:
- Non gran funerale a Corte, ma grandi funerali a Corte!
Don Bosco scrisse al Re una seconda lettera, nella quale gli raccontava il secondo sogno e lo invitava a impedire che fosse approvato un progetto legge che proponeva lo scioglimento degli Ordini religiosi che non si dedicavano all'istruzione, alla predicazione o all'assistenza degli orfani, e l'incameramento di tutti i beni da parte dello Stato, con il pretesto che « con quei beni lo Stato avrebbe potuto provvedere alle parrocchie più povere». Proponente del progetto era Urbano Rattazzi. Mentre si discuteva questo progetto legge alle Camere, Don Bosco ripeteva ai suoi intimi:
- Questa legge attirerà su Casa Reale gravi disgrazie.
Il Re aveva fatto leggere quelle lettere al Marchese Fassati, che si recò da Don Bosco e gli disse:
- Ma le pare questa la maniera di mettere sossopra tutta la Corte? Il Re ne è rimasto più che impressionato e turbato. Anzi è montato sulle furie.
- Ciò che ho scritto è verità - rispose Don Bosco -. Mi rincresce di aver disgustato il Sovrano, ma si tratta del suo bene e di quello della Chiesa.
In quei giorni Vittorio Emanuele II scriveva al generale Alfonso Lamarmora: «Mia madre e mia moglie non fanno che ripeter mi che esse muoiono di dispiacere per causa mia». Esse infatti erano contrarie a quella legge settaria e ingiusta.
Il 5 gennaio 1855 si ammalava gravemente la Regina Madre Maria Teresa, e il 12 seguente si spegneva con una morte santa. Aveva 54 anni. Il lutto fu universale perché era molto amata per la sua carità verso tutti i bisognosi.
Il giorno 16 la Corte reale non era ancor tornata dai funerali della Regina Madre, quando ricevette l'urgente invito a partecipare al viatico della Regina Maria Adelaide. Essa aveva dato alla luce un bambino otto giorni prima e non si era più ripresa. Quattro giorni dopo, la sera del 20, l'augusta inferma spirava a soli 33 anni di età.

E realmente nella notte dal 10 all' 11 febbraio, dopo venti giorni di grave malattia, moriva il principe Ferdinando di Savoia, Duca di Genova, fratello del re, anch'egli a soli 33 anni.
Il Sovrano fu talmente turbato da quelle profezie dolorosamente avveratesi, che un giorno esclamò: «Io non ho più un istante di pace! Don Bosco non mi lascia vivere!» E incaricò una personalità di Corte di riferire a Don Bosco queste sue parole.

Diventato prete don Bosco \Flavio Insinna/ inizia a Torino il dottorato di ricerca; le strade della città piemontese sono aule ampie e pullulano di alunni che brillano per la profonda conoscenza delle leggi penali. Se per questi ragazzi la strada è la succursale della loro vita, il carcere ne è la sede principale. Lo scopo di don Bosco, il suo sogno, è quello di ribaltare tale situazione; questi giovani pendagli da forca hanno bisogno di qualcuno che li riporti in Vita. Ha bisogno di un luogo per accoglierli, ecco l'idea dell'oratorio. L'amore che è luce ha un nemico oscuro, l'odio. In città don Bosco non è ben voluto. Il Marchese Clementi \Charles Dance/, Vicario del Re è portatore malsano di questo sentimento che tutto contagia e distrugge. Don Bosco ed il suo progetto sono nel mirino. Le accuse più infamanti ricadono sul giovane prete. La benefica amicizia della marchesa di Barolo \Alessandra Martines/, viene rasa al suolo. Inizia un periodo buio nella vita di Giuanin.
I sogni hanno un prezzo, talvota altissimo. "Comunità Valdocco"; c'è un prezzo da pagare per vederla nascere?

Wonderful! A beautiful story of a hard-working and diligent saint, compassionate and patient, gentle and kind. He was the one who actually cared about homeless boys and he was the one who tried to understand them, a true saint.

Hasta ahora, es lejos la mejor vida de santo que he visto. Realmente EXCELENTE. Nada de melosa, como otras. Se las recomiendo ampliamente.
