Audience Member Very low-budget movie from Japanese indie director Mari Asato. The movie title doesn't really help as it is so inaccurate. The 4 girls aren't samurai at all but dancers. Samurai Chicks is a cute action/black comedy movie but it is certainly not among the best low budgeters I've seen from Japan. It starts out well, goes a bit off the rails in the middle but picks up once more as one by one our 4 heroines are picked off by the evil government who want to kill them. Overall, it's only average at best and doesn't bring anything new or different to the Japanese low budget splatter genre. To be fairly honest it's disappointing. Give it a whirl if you've got 75 mins to waste. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Very low-budget movie from Japanese indie director Mari Asato. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Disappointing movie about a dance academy that actually is a cover for a revolutionary front seeking independence from Japan. The premise is intriguing, but the film fails to deliver on almost every front. The action sequences are mostly flat and repeat the same choreography. The story does not give enough background on the revolutionary cause to make that interesting and only gives one of the "Samurai Chicks" any development at all. Her motivation--her mother is killed by a bolt that fell off a passing government plane--is unconvincing, but at least we learn something about her. The others are just fodder for government agents to kill. "Samurai Chicks" isn't smart enough to be a political thriller or social commentary and it's not over-the-top enough to be B-movie fun. Unfortunately, it just ends up being bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Good title, average film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Should be titled Ninja Chicks. At any rate, it's not a good movie...effects are'nt very good, music is annoying, and the plot is cheeseball as hell, but it is fun if you like cheesy j-films. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent not not really good movie. Cute girls and some OK violence and action, but it is too silly for it's own good. Still, there are worse movies out there... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
