Ed Gonzalez Slant Magazine If the title of the film was meant to be ironic then Escalante's parody has fallen on deaf ears and blind eyes. Rated: 2/4 Mar 10, 2006 Full Review Lisa Nesselson Variety Hypnotically banal in content but strangely riveting in execution, whatever the opposite of an action picture is, this is it. May 18, 2005 Full Review Ray Bennett The Hollywood Reporter Escalante's snail-paced depiction of how Mexican 'telenovelas' might cause an essentially decent, if spineless and unimaginative, man to react to a family disaster with an act of reckless melodrama fails to convince. May 17, 2005 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice An enigmatic Mexican film that captures the shadow elements in a marriage. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Felt like a meditational drama with too much nudity without any purpose Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It was OK but the end was just a waste of time and really quite boring. Non actors work in some movies but not in this one. Especially if the script isn't the best. You need to be an excellent director in order to accomplish a good job with non actors. As an example I could use Japon and Batalla en el Cielo by Carlos Reygadas. My opinion anyway, What do I know, right? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member there's something very sordid about this movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie got excellent reviews, although I really haven't got the slightest idea why. maybe people in mexico are so sick of watching telenovelas that they want to see something nihilistic for a change. I'd rather read sartre this is way too gruesome for me.
