Nell Minow Movie Mom Boylan has the creamy skin and bright blue eyes to shine in the Dolly moments. The musical numbers, presented with sweetness and sincerity, are a lot of fun. The real life scenes are not as lively or effectively staged. Rated: B- Feb 11, 2023 Full Review Sheila O'Malley RogerEbert.com The exploration is deep, very deep, so much so that one could easily imagine a much darker and edgier film could have been the result. As it is, "Seriously Red" sneaks up on you. Rated: 3/4 Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Even at its bluntest, “Seriously Red” draws a lot of heat and light from Boylan, whose Red enjoys embodying the casual confidence, folksy wisdom and bombshell bravura of one of the world’s most beloved entertainers. Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Damon Wise Deadline Hollywood Daily “We need more Dollys in the world,” is the message of this raucous but hugely enjoyable comedy, which, at the same time, reminds us that there is -- and can only be -- one Dolly Parton. Sep 16, 2023 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies Seriously Red is the kind of movie we should be getting instead of bland biopics. Rated: 4/5 Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Not as sharp as it should be... but it's got a lot of sweet and really wonderful scenes. Michael F Ok movie. Singing pretty good and despite several of my friends being in it, a total let down. Whoever did the makeup for the Kenny Rogers actor definitely needs to go back to makeup school. Not recommended 😔 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Ken B Seriously Red was seriously disappointing! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Costa B A promising idea degenerates into a slog, climaxing with an ending that is just too silly to swallow. The wannabe feelgood story ends up being a capitulation to "just be happy being you" homilies. Much time is wasted on subplots with characters - Mom, and a wannabe boyfriend- who are respectively, silly, and dull. Direction is unimaginative, never rising above the prosaic. The film wastes its lively lead performer. She's halfway convincing, unlike the faux Kenny Rogers. The fake androgynous Elvis points at a movie that might have been deeper, darker, and more interesting. Not this time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/10/23 Full Review Amy O As a Dolly Parton stan, I loved this movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/23 Full Review Chris J MOVIE REVIEW Seriously Red – Genre: Comedy, Drama, Music Year Released: 2023 Runtime: 1h 38m Director(s): Gracie Otto Writer(s): Krew Boylan Cast: Krew Boylan, Daniel Webber, Celeste Barber, Thomas Campbell, Todd Lasance, Jean Kittson, Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne Where To Watch: arrives on Blu-ray™ (+ Digital) and DVD, and On Demand from Lionsgate on March 21, 2023 RAVING REVIEW: Let me be honest, I was never a huge Dolly Parton fan, but my mom and sister are. That was enough to intrigue me and make me want to watch SERIOUSLY RED, a film that pays homage to the legendary Dolly Parton. The story revolves around Raylene, a young woman who is determined to become the world's best Dolly Parton impersonator. Raylene embarks on a journey of self-discovery as she struggles to find her true identity. Her journey is guided by Dolly's famous quotes and her soulful music. The film's visual style is striking, with a vibrant color palette and intricate costumes that reflect Raylene's evolving impersonation of Dolly Parton. The film's talented cast, which includes Thomas Campbell, Jean Kittson, Celeste Barber, Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Daniel Webber, brings to life a cast of fascinating characters that orbit around Raylene, each adding their unique touch to the story. At its core, SERIOUSLY RED is a triumph of individuality and authenticity, as Raylene discovers that happiness comes from embracing one's true self. The film is a warm and joyful journey of self-discovery, with a message that speaks to the universal human experience of striving for our dreams while not losing sight of the things that truly matter. I genuinely appreciate it more than I usually would have because I screened Dolly's 2022 Christmas Special MOUNTAIN MAGIC CHRISTMAS late last year. It gave me a fresh take on an incredible human being. From a critical perspective, the film's music serves as a solid narrative thread, with licensed tracks and a powerful score that add depth and emotion to the story. In conclusion, SERIOUSLY RED is a must-see for all of those who appreciate the timeless appeal of Dolly Parton. The film was a heartfelt, funny, sad, and genuine experience all rolled into one. Keep in mind that this is an R-rated film and, being such, has some reason to take caution with who watches.
