Audience Member There is a lot of fantastic action sequences and some sweet fight choreography done by Sonny Chiba. The guy who plays the Chinese monk does some amazing stuff. Then top it off with a badass 80's Rock theme song. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Suffer! Suffer more before you go to hell! A Shogun's heir is under training by a local clan. His older brother sends a group of assassins to slay the clan and heir so he will be next in line to replace their father. The assassins are successful in destroying the clan but the brother escapes under the protection of a few brave men. Can the brave men protect the heir to the throne on a voyage to the Shogun's palace or will the assassins successfully execute their mission? "I want to challenge you to a duel." "I accept, with pleasure." Yasuo Furuhata, director of Kura, The Haunted Samurai, Railroad Man, Yasha, and Winter's Flower, delivers Shogun's Shadow. The storyline for this picture is interesting and well delivered albeit common for the samurai genre. The action scenes are wonderfully delivered and the cast delivers stunning performances. The cast includes Sonny Chiba, Ken Ogata, Toshihiro Asari, and Norihito Arai. "Did he vomit blood again?" Shogun's Shadow was one of two DVDs that came free with the Shadow Warrior's Television series box set. This movie was entertaining and another well delivered Chiba samurai genre picture; however, it was far from one of his better works. The soundtrack was strange and didn't match the content and the character that acted like a monkey was a little weird. Overall, this is worth viewing for fans of samurai pictures or Sonny Chiba. "We win if I survive?" Grade: B- Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member impressive anime-like hardcore fight scenes, stunning action and at some moments quite weird soundtrack (from shpagetti western style to pure 80's stuff)... :) quite entertaining... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member When I first saw this movie on the local L.A. international channel, I was floored by not only by the daringly bloody violence (however a near, plot less, non-stop action film-guilty pleasure it is), but likewise with the schmaltzy sentimentality, done via the rock soundtrack by The Alfie. I guess there's something to be said when one is able to communicate hardcore samurai action with a post-Karate Kid, cheesy rock music!* There's something strangely nostalgic about this chambara-gory, cheese-fest, especially when I first saw the televised version (of this film) during the summer of my Jr. High graduation! *that's what a former roommate once commented when I first shown him this movie--complete with that traumatic spear in the eye bit! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member OK movie but it is boring to watch especially with the serious yelling big difference from chinese movies Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member sonny chiba kicks ass!!
