Le sigh. I don't know what I was expecting this movie except how boring this has been. Actually, I've looked up what most reviews were saying and after seeing the movie, they were right. And apparently, this had an original script yet it was thrown out and rewritten in one whole week, according to the director, Monte Hellman. It sure shows how this movie feels when you make some weird plot and riddled with so many problems.
The story is about Ricky Caldwell, played by Bill Moseley, in a coma for six years after being shot at the last movie. Yet wasn't he shot a couple of times and somehow still lived with his eyes blinking and a devilish grin? Who brought him to that hospital? Eh, whatever. He has a transparent dome affixed to his head by the doctors in order to repair his damaged skull. Yeah, you see his brain, so get used to it. He's being used by Dr. Newbury, played by Richard Beymer, to run an experiment with a blind clairvoyant girl named Laura Anderson, played by Samantha Scully, to reach out to Ricky. She does so by observing the time Ricky's parents were murdered and a guy in a Santa Claus getting shot on purpose. Yeah, they used footage from the first movie here, too. On Christmas Eve, Laura begins to regret participating with this experiment, but the doctor convinces her to keep trying, saying that they can talk more after Laura returns home from visiting her grandmother.
She gets picked up by her brother, Chris, played by Eric Da Re, and meets up with his girlfriend, Jerri, played by Laura Harring, on their way to see their grandmother. However, Ricky wakes up from his coma and kills a couple of people in the hospital before he marches on to see Laura, killing a few more people in the process. Killed off camera, by the way. You do see what the bodies look like in the next scene, as far as it goes. What's hilarious is that Ricky in this movie behaves like Jason from Friday the 13th and Michael Myers from Halloween. Not only that, a couple of detectives are chasing after him WITHOUT calling Laura about Ricky coming after him. One of them, for some reason, is connected to Ricky, too. Yeah, I'm dumping a little lot in this review because there are some bizarre choices they made for this movie. As Laura, Chris, and Jerri arrived, noticing that their grandmother is not there. I wonder why? Down the road, when Laura is panicking as Ricky arrives, she hears her grandmother's voice to embrace her powers.
Not only does it all feel out of place, this becomes some of the dullest movies that I've seen. Honestly, I wanted to like it, but when you make Ricky behave like Jason as his mind is now connected to Laura, because of Dr. Newbury's experimentation, it barely feels like Silent Night, Deadly Night. The acting is unfortunately dull for how the script goes along with their decisions. I hate how they have the kills being done off camera. There was one or two that were shown, yet they don't feel satisfying, especially within the last ten minutes. I got more bored than how I would invest in Laura and her gift that she should've been in a different movie that involves a different approach.
Yeah, unfortunately, I don't have anything else to say about this movie, but there isn't. Not worth revisiting down the road unless a friend invites me to watch this as a marathon. If you're looking to give this a watch, be my guest. Just be prepared to live through a long winter sleep with this one. So you Better Watch Out, this gets one dull stab to Ricky's arm as he had Laura by the neck out of ten. 1/10.

Takes a genuinely wild left turn for the series, attempting to reinvent its slasher premise with a heavy dose of telepathy and psychic connections. In this desperate effort to turn the killer, Ricky Caldwell, into a genuinely iconic, almost supernatural slasher character (complete with a clear plastic dome over his head), the movie unfortunately loses the sleazy, low-budget, and anarchic charm that made the first two films, particularly the notorious original, such gleefully transgressive watches, resulting in a confusing and ultimately less memorable outing.

Better Watch Out! is a classic example of a slasher sequel gone horribly wrong. It’s a baffling mess that somehow manages to throw away the potential of its predecessor while offering little more than a series of incoherent scenes strung together by the thinnest of plots.

this movie doesn't have anything in it that's necessarily terrible. it's honestly just boring. there is a whole lotta nothing happening for like 40-45 minutes. the main character being blind and having psychic powers is completely unnecessary and adds nothing to the story. this movie has pretty much 0 christmas feel. everyone moves like snails. the acting isn't awful but it's nothing to write home about, not even Bill Moseley was great in this movie. again though, this wasn't offensive or anything and it wasn't terrible, it's a decent horror movie that is poorly paced and has a weak story.
